The finished photos for this custom swimsuit Rem set are finally edited and ready! When people think of Rem, their first impression is undoubtedly that classic maid outfit. Choosing a custom swimsuit concept this time was truly an out-of-the-box attempt, so I must first offer a sincere apology to all fellow fans—apologies for any OOC; I truly hope everyone can accept this version of Rem enjoying herself by the summer waters.
Let's chat about the styling details first. To recreate Rem's signature blue short hair, I intentionally selected a wig material with a gradient sheen, which casts a subtle, translucent glow under studio lights. The bangs were trimmed into a clean arc, with that iconic pink X-shaped hairpin pinned to the right side. For makeup, light blue contact lenses were paired with pinkish eyeshadow and blush to give the overall complexion a vibrant, lifelike look. A slim black choker around my neck added a touch of subtle contrast to the otherwise refreshing attire.
The outfit features a black ruffled two-piece Swimsuit. The upper half utilizes a halter-neck design with fine straps, adorned with white lace trim and black bows across the bust that echo the white-laced mini shorts below. To harmonize with the overarching visual aesthetic, I wore a pair of White stockings (tights). Under indoor lighting, the matte texture of the White stockings formed a striking contrast against the black Swimsuit, visually elongating the leg lines. Here's a quick tip for everyone: when shooting in White stockings, always ensure the floor is pristine, or they pick up dirt easily.
The shooting location was an indoor studio featuring an artificial beach and pool set. The floor was laid with light brown wood-grain panels, while the blue-and-white tiled pool walls and clear water surface created a gorgeous cool-toned backdrop. For props, I used a transparent blue swim ring decorated with star patterns—the exact one I'm seated on in the first shot.
During the shoot, the posing for the opening photo took quite a while to dial in. Sitting sideways on the floor with my legs bent and crossed was designed to showcase the White stockings and leg lines to the fullest before the lens. Leaning slightly backward with one hand propping me up, looking toward the camera with a lazy gaze, I hoped to capture that quiet yet mildly endearing, spaced-out demeanor unique to Rem. The second shot, sitting by the pool edge hugging the swim ring with legs dangling toward the water, aimed to echo the theme of beating the summer heat. The photographer utilized a softbox to keep skin textures looking delicate and smooth.
Although this custom Swimsuit concept differs drastically from the canon maid outfit, trying out different stylings to reveal a relaxed side of the character during summer was a thoroughly delightful experience. Huge thanks to the photographer for their patient guidance, and to my backstage support crew for helping tidy props and the wig. This photo set marks a tiny exploration along my cosplay journey, and I truly hope everyone enjoys this slice-of-life Rem.
