For this studio photoshoot, I chose this White stockings look of Kurumi Tsuchimikado from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT. To achieve the cleanest visual outcome against a pure white backdrop, immense care went into the preliminary preparation. The silver-white long straight wig needed its bangs trimmed and smoothed the night before to prevent any flyaways or frizz under the studio lights. The plush animal ears atop my head are the defining accent of this fox-eared girl silhouette; the tri-colored black, white, and orange fur required constant angle adjustments while wearing to ensure it looked fluffy and natural under direct frontal illumination. For the makeup, I emphasized depth around the eyes with slightly elongated wings, complemented by warm-toned blush and rosy lip gloss to radiate a vibrant complexion before the camera.
The layering of the costume is remarkably intricate. The white-and-gold primary garment is paired with a metallic gold neckpiece, accented by vivid red cord knots at the shoulders. Fingerless gloves and mesh-patterned detached sleeves not only enrich arm visuals, but also provide effortless mobility during shooting. The sculpted metallic waist ornament and red sash flatter visual proportions comfortably. Although the skirt hem conceals much of the view in some shots, to faithfully complete this Hu Tao cosplay concept with White stockings, I paired it with finely textured white stockings. This type of White stockings can easily appear visually expansive under intense studio lighting, so pose choreography focused on elongating leg lines, using the folding fan and slight body tilts to refine proportions while retaining an agile, playful edge within the cuteness.
During the shoot, a 17mm focal length introduced noticeable perspective and subtle wide-angle dynamic tension in the pure white studio space. Set to f/2.8, 1/125s, and ISO 100, this exposure recipe guaranteed pinpoint facial sharpness while softly blurring the foreground. The folding fan in hand was a crucial prop, featuring black ribs and a richly colored gradient leaf. I tried extending the fan toward the lens, using the wide aperture to create strong foreground bokeh for layered spatial depth; the fan's vibrant colors struck a striking warm-and-cool contrast against the stark white backdrop and silver-white hair.
Another refined detail was the white thread wound between my fingers. Lightly pinching the thread while steadying the fan added narrative depth to the imagery, though in practice it required rigid wrist tension to prevent the thread from tangling. Being a studio shoot, lighting was paramount: the key light angled down from above, flanked by softboxes on either side to eliminate harsh shadows on the face and costume, allowing the white setting to preserve metallic gleam and fabric textures. Holding the fan through various framing angles definitely left my arms aching, but seeing accurate exposures and exquisite details on the camera monitor made the exhaustion vanish instantly. Merging this lively spirit with shrine maiden cosplay elements created a truly distinctive style; every adjustment of props and gaze was dedicated to embodying that mysterious yet cheeky persona. I look forward to experimenting with more lighting styles to highlight even more facets of this costume down the road.
