Preparing for this Tsuchinaga Hiyori Swimsuit cosplay shoot in Dalian took considerable time. The most time-consuming part was the hair: the twintails have a vibrant color, and plenty of holding spray was used to maintain the curls and natural drape at the ends. Makeup avoided heavy contouring since harsh natural light by a summer pool tends to wash out powders, focusing instead on enlarging the eyes and conveying a gentle expression. Anticipating sweat under the open sun, waterproof and sweat-resistant foundation was chosen, holding up exceptionally well throughout the session. The location was a standard outdoor swimming pool with crisp, directional afternoon sunlight casting well-defined shadows along the deck. The photographer, Ascending Qiliu-kun, brought immense expertise in framing and lighting; we leveraged pool ledges, guardrails, and parasols for clean compositional lines. A portable reflector filled shadows under the chin and neck, producing translucent skin tones that avoided washing out under intense light. Beyond the core swimsuit, the sheer pale-yellow duster cardigan proved essential, offering sun protection while adding flowing movement as breezes caught its hem. Chunky white heeled sandals chosen per character design elongated leg lines in both seated and standing poses. Maintaining high energy under relentless sun proved challenging, as holding smiles can easily turn stiff; the photographer introduced props and natural micro-actions—tilting head angles with sunglasses or adjusting the cardigan collar. A cartoon sticker on the right thigh subtly covered a scrape from earlier prep during retouching. This shoot highlighted how vital the harmony between lighting and character emotion truly is; while post-processing adjusts color grading, that luminous, sun-kissed clarity and natural skin highlight can only be captured in-camera.
