This set of Houshou Marine's maid costume convention photos has finally been organized. A lot of thought went into setting up the shooting scene this time, primarily aiming to recreate that intertwining atmosphere of navigation and a tea party. In terms of costume, the primary color scheme of red and white is extremely eye-catching. The white ruffles on the upper garment paired with the red bow tie create a rich sense of layering, and the lace trims at the neckline and cuffs were ironed in advance to ensure flatness before the lens. The small apron design at the waist increases the maid costume's exquisiteness, with the red vertical stripes and black aligned buttons serving as key detail points. The skirt hem features a multi-layered design, where the outer red fabric is lined with white lace trim, providing an excellent fluffy feel when walking or lifting the skirt. To maintain the skirt's crinoline effect, a specific petticoat was worn underneath, and coupled with layers upon layers of lace, the overall weight is actually quite heavy.
To echo the overall style, I chose semi-translucent Black stockings and paired them with lace garter belt loops, which visually elongates the leg lines and balances the heavier color weight of the upper body. Regarding shoe selection, black glossy high heels harmonize well with the texture of the Black stockings, and the heel height is moderate, making it convenient to walk around large convention venues like comic cons. The headpiece is a maid headband with red edges and white lace, matched with a pink long straight wig. Wigs are prone to getting frizzy at convention sites, so I carried anti-static spray and a comb with me to groom the bangs and sideburns at any time, ensuring it flatters face shapes while staying as close to the character's traits as possible.
In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on the eye section, utilizing glitter and eyeliner to emphasize eye contours and brightness, paired with a vibrant blusher, making the overall makeup look quite playful. The base makeup chose long-lasting products, because convention venues are crowded and muggy, making touch-ups an indispensable step. Prop preparation during the shoot was very comprehensive: on the left side, a red wooden treasure chest, gold coins, pearl necklaces, and parchment paper, coupled with a vintage kerosene lamp, thick hemp rope, and a wooden ship's wheel, instantly highlighted the nautical theme. On the right side, the wooden tea cart featured a silver teapot, teacups, and a strawberry shortcake, all used to set off the tea party atmosphere. The gold coins and rose petals on the ground were also intentionally arranged to enrich the frame.
Shooting convention photos on-site at a comic con is actually quite challenging. The venue background features numerous steel structures and high-up lighting fixtures, with limited space and large crowds. To highlight the subject, the photographer utilized a large aperture to blur the background, while top-front lighting illuminated the face and costume details, casting shadows on the ground at the same time. In pose design, I chose to lift both sides of the skirt hem with my hands, standing with legs slightly apart, which showcases the full view of the skirt while drawing attention through the extension feel of the leg lines. In actual shooting, maintaining this posture and managing expressions is quite tiring, requiring core tightness while ensuring the skirt hem in hand doesn't block too much, and the photographer was constantly adjusting angles to avoid the crowd.
However, upon seeing the finished photos, I felt all these details were handled exceptionally well. The combination of the red-and-white maid costume and these vintage nautical props filled the entire frame with a strong narrative sense. This time, I made numerous attempts in makeup/styling, prop coordination, and on-site handling, hoping to showcase Houshou Marine's unique charm through these details. The unique convention venue background and bustling atmosphere characteristic of convention photos are also major features of this photo set, recording genuine event moments.
