This time I bring you the bunny girl attire of Formidable from Azur Lane. Regarding this set of feature photos, preliminary preparation to the end of the shoot really consumed a lot of energy, and I'd like to share some details during the process.
First, let's talk about the costume and makeup. To recreate that slightly retro maid-style white dress, I specially chose a fabric with a nice drape and a semi-transparent effect. The black lace lines at the cuffs needed to be very neat, otherwise they would easily look cheap in front of the lens. For the bunny ears of the headwear, support material was used inside to ensure they stood up during the shoot, and the plush texture looked exceptionally soft under the lighting. In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on the eye makeup. To fit the character's doll-like feel, a reddish-toned dark eyeshadow was blended at the outer corners of the eyes, along with vibrant colored contact lenses to ensure the gaze had piercing power. Black stockings are also an indispensable part; the semi-sheer texture nicely outlines the leg lines under the lighting.
The setup of the scene and props is a major highlight this time. We chose an interior space featuring a wooden bookshelf and classical elements. The red velvet fabric in the frame laid out on the table directly maxed out the overall dark fairy tale atmosphere. Several paired white pillar candles, once lit, could supplement a bit of warm light to the face. Red roses and small black-and-white checkerboard props were specially used as color accents, otherwise the frame might appear too monotonous. That multi-headed silver metal candlestick plus small dolls was also meant to enrich the layering of the frame and keep the foreground from looking too empty.
Action control during the shooting process is quite demanding. The posture of lying on the side looks lazy, but in reality, the waist and core muscles need to constantly exert force so that the curves of the upper body and legs present a nice arc. The action of holding a red apple with one hand requires a relaxed wrist, and the gaze needs to maintain that elusive, direct look without trying too hard. To ensure the layering of hair and clothing, the lighting adopted a combination of main light and side-backlighting, while adding a reflector in the front to brighten skin tone and avoid overly heavy shadows.
During post-processing, besides routine skin tone and liquify adjustments, starlight and bokeh particle effects were mainly added around the edges of the frame and the character to enhance that dreamy and floating feeling. This kind of effect shouldn't be overdone, otherwise it would cover up the character's own texture. The overall photo output effect matches expectations well, possessing both a photobook feel and faithfully restoring the character's traits as much as possible.
