Shooting this official Felix Schultz cosplay set truly took a lot of thought, as I wanted to present a sense of languor and mysterious ambiance different from conventional maid outfits. The costume design is exquisite—the main body combines spliced black leather fabric with white ruffles and a vibrant red hemline trim. This tri-color clash of black, white, and red creates intense visual tension, complemented by the prominent cross pendant and choker at the neckline, elevating the overall texture to the max.
To capture the character's temperament, the purple wig was styled with adjusted crown volume, which, paired with the black headband, made the overall head silhouette look more three-dimensional. In terms of makeup, to suit the warm and dim ambient light of the bar, eye makeup was defined with heavier contours and elongated eyeliner, while lip color used a deeper dark red to echo the red hem of the costume.
The location chosen for this shoot was a bar counter, with dark wooden liquor cabinets behind stacked with assorted foreign liquors. Lit by warm yellow overhead lights and background LED strips, it created a private and upscale atmosphere. I wanted the visuals to be rich in narrative, so a lot of care went into prop interactions. One frame holding up a wine bottle perfectly conveyed a sly, enticing interaction akin to "Commander, have a drink already," aligning closely with the character's persona in Azur Lane.
In styling details, especially the hosiery selection, I chose a matte, high-elastic pair of black tights to showcase optimal texture under the warm light and purple ambient glow on the left, paired with glossy black patent leather high heels for this Black tights outfit to elongate the leg lines smoothly. During the shoot, we communicated extensively on body positioning—for instance, leaning back while seated on the bar counter with legs crossed and stretched forward aimed to highlight the contouring of the Black tights outfit before the camera, while the flexed leg angles conveyed a relaxed ease. This accentuated the character's alluring charm without feeling overly staged.
The yellow bird plush toy was also incorporated as a prop during the shoot. A photo sitting on a high stool, with one hand near the chest necklace and the other cradling the plushie, was designed to balance the upscale mood with a touch of the character's signature playfulness. Various goblets and cocktail shakers scattered in the background added plenty of authentic slice-of-life realism to the scene.
For controlling light and shadow in this set, the photographer initially used a cool-toned strip light from the side to illuminate the wig, creating a warm-cool contrast with the bar's warm ambient tones that made the purple hair texture pop while separating the subject from the dark background. In post-processing, we avoided exaggerated edits, primarily unifying color tones and subtly enhancing the textural contrast between the Black tights outfit and leather. Overall, this was a Cosplay photography experience that seamlessly merged character lore, costume texture, and the bar setting; being able to express Felix Schultz's unique charm in Azur Lane through Cosplay photography feels thoroughly rewarding.
