[Kitashirakawa Chiyuri cosplay] Stepping into the Blue Waters of Touhou Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream

Shooting this Kitashirakawa Chiyuri cosplay photoshoot involved numerous adjustments from initial concept breakdowns to the final makeup look. PC-98 Touhou Project characters boast distinctive designs, which also means reference material in real life is sparse, requiring a lot of personal trial and error. The sailor suit was the core highlight of this project; the skirt ruffles, the blue-and-white water gun, and customized white stockings all required meticulous cross-checking against original illustrations. To stay true to the water-themed motif, I brought water-ripple effect props and even added two rubber duckies to the set.

Accounting for the complex lighting inside the convention hall, the photographer used off-camera strobe lights to emphasize the subject, suppressing background distractions so they wouldn't steal visual focus. Convention photography can be quite demanding; the floor space is limited, requiring careful footing around ground cables. Striking that one-legged raised pose tested my core stability, taking multiple attempts to capture the most natural balance. The squatting pose similarly challenged my center of gravity, alongside keeping the skirt free of awkward creases. Any slight shift in posture would distort the fabric's silhouette, requiring continuous on-site adjustments.

Post-processing focused primarily on refining the environment and costume textures. On portraying niche characters: their charm lies in the creative whitespace, allowing me to design expressions and dynamic gestures based on my own interpretation. While niche characters may not draw the massive attention of mainstream ones, they offer tremendous creative freedom. The shoot maintained a brisk pace; in one shot, I had to balance on the wooden floor holding the prop water gun in one hand and lifting the skirt hem with the other, coordinating with the lighting assistant's cues. A fair number of spectators gathered on-site, making me slightly nervous at first, but I quickly relaxed into character.

Preparing the outfit was an iterative journey of tailoring, undoing seams, and resewing to match the original art's silhouette. The makeup was tuned to match the blonde wig with varied contouring shades. Weaving the blue theme across the visuals aimed to restore the character's unique charm within the available setup. The shoot went smoothly, and I am grateful for the photographer's seamless teamwork and patient guidance. Every meticulous attempt at styling and cosplaying deepens my appreciation for ACG culture.
