Adjusting the details of this costume took much more energy than expected, especially the headpiece part. The combination of red lace and ribbons with off-white wide-brimmed lace, plus the asymmetrical tassels and strap decorations, required finding a balance point for both the overall layering and visual volume. For the hairstyle, the thick hime-cut and long straight hair were retained. To prevent the black hair from blending into a solid blob under the warm lantern light, special attention was paid to the direction of the hair strands during the shoot.

The photography location was chosen inside a typical traditional Chinese architectural corridor. The dark wooden carved window frames and hollowed-out patterns hold a strong sense of age, which, combined with several red lanterns hanging in a staggered arrangement, created a quiet and warm spatial atmosphere. This costume with a red and white shrine maiden style happens to stand out beautifully in this kind of light and shadow environment, preventing the dark background from swallowing the character's silhouette. The shoot relied primarily on the warm light source from the lanterns as the main light without using additional flash units for heavy fill light, thereby preserving the natural environmental colors for this Lantern light and shadow photography session.

Two different states were attempted during the shooting process. In the front standing pose, I hold a slender black prop with a slightly relaxed gaze, focusing on showcasing the complex knots and patchwork square patterns on the front lapel, keeping the visual focus around the collar and neck area. In the other shot where I turn sideways close to the wooden window, I lightly place my finger against my jawline with a slightly downward gaze, blending myself into the light and shadow shed by the red lanterns. The continuous red lanterns and silhouette-like window panes in the background create an excellent depth of field.

The environmental layout of the venue this time perfectly matched the style of this outfit. The texture and material of the wooden window frames offer a heavy sense of history. Against the backdrop of the red lantern light, the luster on all wooden surfaces is very soft, providing a great base tone for the frame. In contrast, the alternating red and white lace and straps in this outfit add a touch of exquisiteness—one heavy and one light, one dark and one bright, forming a wonderful contrast in front of the lens.

Regarding makeup and hair, to match the volume of the headpiece, the height of the front hair and the handling of the bangs underwent multiple fine-tunings to ensure that the head wouldn't look overly heavy from the front. Meanwhile, the color adjustments in post-production focused on maintaining the warm orange tones of the background and the saturation of the red on the character's lapel and cuffs, preventing the overall image from turning grey. The photographer was also quite attentive to the coordination between the props and bodily movements during snapshots—for instance, the grip tightness on the slender staff and the curvature of the finger resting on the side of the face were presented in natural postures as much as possible. Challenges with uneven light distribution were also encountered throughout the process, as lanterns are point light sources that can easily form distinct shadows on one side of the body. However, it is precisely this uneven lighting that allows the photos to present a more narrative frame, as if there is a real storyline flowing through it. When the final photos came out, seeing the carvings on the wooden window, the glowing forms of the red lanterns, and the fine details on the costume clearly preserved made the result exceed expectations for this Touhou Project cosplay.
