[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] Touhou Project's Desolate Dreamscape and Retro Telephone

An abandoned phone booth, withered yellow weeds, and scrapped cars scattered in corners—all these cluttered elements combined actually created a very unique ambiance for this cosplay set. This shoot features Komeiji Koishi from Touhou Project, set in a relatively niche yet topic-fitting abandoned outdoor location. To match the character's unique demeanor of detachment from common sense, the photographer spent a long time adjusting site lighting, ultimately delivering a cool-toned visual effect filled with fine grain and a mysterious foggy haze.

Preparing this outfit took considerable effort. The black lace mini top hat on my head was custom-made, with yellow roses and white ribbons precisely fixed to create a playful tilt to one side. What satisfied me most was the large cluster of blue hydrangea decorations on the chest and shoulders; I spent a lot of time searching for artificial floral materials that stayed light and translucent without falling off during big movements. A striking yellow bow tied at the neckline, paired with a Chinese-character-shaped gem brooch, added a vibrant splash of color to the overall black-and-white outfit. The sleeves and skirt layers were paneled with abundant white lace and cascading ruffles; although the skirt felt a bit heavy when squatting or holding up the telephone handset, these rich fabric layers offered real substance on camera.

The photographer's post-processing was restrained yet precise. I particularly love the red-blue-green misaligned stripe glitch effect resembling electronic signal interference, as if data was lost when Gensokyo materialized in the real world—perfectly fitting the character's aura of "being forgotten by everyone." The first close-up froze the moment of making a phone call, with the coiled cord of an old-fashioned rotary phone arcing through the air, where the phone's blue color echoed the blue flowers on my outfit. The second wide-angle shot established environmental context: the dilapidated yellow van in the background was almost overgrown with vine plants. Looking through the glass smeared with raindrops and dust, I truly felt like I was standing in a forgotten corner.

The weather wasn't great on the shoot day, and light in the open-air environment dimmed rapidly, forcing us to race against time to catch the best brightness and texture. The wig was a light blue short style with soft curls and a fluffy finish. Paired with subtle makeup, it intentionally blurred facial emotions, aiming to convey a detached state of being unbothered by the outside world and immersed in her own universe. Holding the phone handset throughout while holding a long Third Eye cord prop in the other hand wasn't easy; posing casually required careful control of core balance. Yet seeing the final images inside the viewfinder made all the fatigue melt away instantly.

Every step—from location selection and makeup styling to post-processing—was thoroughly discussed with team members. Rather than simply capturing pretty photos, we hoped to convey deep character emotions through tone and environment. This wasteland style carrying storytelling and imperfect aesthetics aligned seamlessly with the dark fairy tale ambiance we wanted to express. Atmospheric photography composition and lighting control were remarkably professional, uncovering an unconventional beauty within a venue filled with rust and broken glass. The entire shoot was deeply satisfying, and I hope this photo set offers everyone a fresh perspective on a Touhou Project character.
