[Sushang Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Cloud Knight Trainee Holding a Sword in a Mirror Selfie

Putting on this gear and lifting my phone toward the mirror brought a wonderfully surreal sense of detachment. The reflection in front of me was no longer my daily look, but the young Cloud Knight riding gallantly through the Xianzhou. The costume's texture was firmer than I imagined, especially the black leather vest with its semi-matte sheen; the central red gem and winding gilt patterns reflected subtle layers under the light. The top's orange lantern sleeves clashed with the delicate purple capelet at the collar, creating the exact vibrant energy I aimed for.

The skirt hem features subtle white Jacquard-like patterns, adding extra depth compared to plain white, while golden tassels hanging from the waist gracefully break the monotony of the large white surface. The black leather leg straps combined with golden thread accents on the tall boots serve as a key visual focus of this ensemble. The white ruffled trim at the top of the boots perfectly softens the toughness of the black-and-gold palette; combined with the asymmetrical design, standing in front of the mirror already gives off that crisp, martial vibe.

The lighting for this mirror selfie shoot was actually quite deliberate—indoor natural light filtered through sheer white curtains, rendering a clean and soft atmosphere that fits this dress infused with traditional Chinese elements. The trickiest part of mirror selfies is coordinating hands and gaze: holding the phone in one hand to cover part of the face while wielding the slender sword with the other. To find the perfect waist-and-hip line, I adjusted my standing posture multiple times. Later, kneeling on one knee supported by the sword proved tough to balance, but the resulting perspective offered fantastic dynamic tension. The giant white bird plushie held in my arm became the finishing touch; its chubby round body and fierce bead eyes added a playful contrast to the otherwise heroic composition.

As Sushang in Honkai: Star Rail, she possesses an innocent drive and a vibrant martial-arts charm. When bringing the character to life, I tried to avoid making poses too rigid or formal, opting instead for a relaxed posture like the split-second before drawing a blade. The orange, white, black, and purple color combination inherently carries high visual impact, which stands out sharply against the clean white backdrop to define the silhouette.

In fact, for outfits mixing armor elements with skirts, the biggest test lies in how snugly the corset girdle fits. After tightening the girdle, making large movements was indeed tough, but it forced me to maintain an upright, proud posture before the lens. My long brown hair utilized a wig with a subtle natural sheen, with the orange bows on both sides firmly fixed so they didn't get messy even during extended casual cosplay shooting. Although selfies can't fine-tune depth of field or lighting like a DSLR studio shoot, these candid moments captured in reflections better preserve that authentic sense of immersion. Looking at myself in the mirror—holding a sword, cradling a bird plushie—a single glance completely sets the atmosphere.
