[Chien Wu Cosplay] Azur Lane's Modified Cheongsam and Eastern Charm - Image 1

The theme of this shoot is Chien Wu from Azur Lane, and I put on a blue-and-red patchwork modified cheongsam to try and recreate her look. The overall styling takes sky blue as its main color tone, embellished with deep red dark patterns, visually presenting both the coolness of the ocean and the gorgeous feel of traditional attire.

The design details of the costume are highly sophisticated. It is not a tight-fitting wrapped cheongsam in the traditional sense, but instead adopts a halterneck collar design, paired with metal ring splicing on the sides and back, along with a neat side zipper. This structure is not only convenient to put on and take off but also outlines the smooth lines of the shoulders, neck, and back, giving the entire outfit both the elegance of a classical cheongsam and the minor personality of modern design. When wearing it, one can feel the delicate touch of the fabric, which is extremely skin-friendly and comfortable.

On my head, I paired a matching sea-blue large flower hair accessory, complemented by cascading pearl chains. Every time I lightly sway my head, the pearls sway slightly with the movement, adding a hint of dynamic agility and gentle grace. This semi-translucent round fan held in my hand is also a meticulously matched prop; the fan ribs can be seen through the light, creating a lightweight yet hazy atmospheric vibe using its semi-translucent texture when held.

On the day of the shoot, a solid grey-blue pure background was chosen, which matched the colors of this outfit perfectly. The photographer, Aran-bu-ai-chi-yu (阿然不爱吃鱼), is highly imaginative with composition. The main picture you see showcases my posture semi-leaning on a deep brown wooden armchair. With the body leaning backward slightly, the neck lines extend naturally. Following the upward gaze and the direction of the fan, it overall gives people a relaxed and casual feeling. The deep brown of the wooden chair forms a wonderful contrast with the light blue of the clothing, increasing the layers and retro aura of the frame.

The close-up picture of the lower half heavily showcases that mature yet somewhat confident sexiness in the character's setting. The skirt hem features a modified high-slit design, revealing black thigh-high stockings and exquisite garter straps between movements, with the black color offering an excellent visual lengthening effect. Under this perspective, the curved back of the wooden chair serves as a foreground to obscure a portion of the view. Through this framing composition, the leg lines and stocking textures are made more prominent, exuding a sense of allure within its grand scale.

Regarding the light and shadow of the shoot, we used side-backlighting to outline, which allowed the contours of the hair strands to be displayed perfectly, making the skin tone and clothing texture appear highly translucent and soft. It must be said that cooperating with a well-coordinated photographer is a highly delightful experience. Although there were some minor interludes during the shoot—for instance, the pearl chains would tangle with the hair from time to time, or I needed to be mindful of the position of the zippers and metal rings when making large-scale movements to avoid placement shifts—seeing the final output makes all the effort completely worth it.

The design of this modified cheongsam is indeed very thoughtful. It both satisfies my imagination of the anime character Chien Wu's temperament and preserves a styling aesthetic that can be appreciated daily. I hope through this set of photos, everyone can more intuitively feel the unique charm displayed by the element of "cheongsam" in a cosplay context.
