[Azur Lane Cheshire Cosplay] New Year Cheongsam Cat, Making a Festive Appearance

As a form of cosplay photography, this New Year Cheshire-themed shoot is highly memorable. Completing a shoot for this character has always been a topic I personally wanted to achieve, especially considering how frequently this character's emojis are used as a daily chat tool. Finally, I can bring this familiar connection between the 2D and 3D worlds into reality.

Regarding the handling of the costume, integrating the New Year, festive vibes, and character features, we adopted a modified style incorporating a Chinese cheongsam based on the original design. The red base color is bright and fitting for the occasion, and the white plush trim on the collar adds a physical layering texture. Combined with the custom blue-green wig, the overall effect of this Cheongsam cosplay is both lively and elegant. The hair ornament recreates the white ruffled style of the character's original design, accented with a red bow tie, tying closely into the overall red-and-white color scheme of the body.

For the lower half, to highlight the character's visual features, white thigh-high socks and white high heels are standard. This combination effectively extends the visual length when shooting full-body portraits. The white stockings perform exceptionally well under the light and shadow; especially in a warm-toned environment, they reflect a soft ambient light rather than a harsh glare.

For the scene layout, we utilized Chinese-style folding screens and vintage wooden furniture as the environmental keynote. The carved wooden window frame, red berry potted plant, and wooden birdcage on the left side of the frame, paired with the blooming bouquet, blue-and-white porcelain, and scattered golden leaves on the floor on the right side—this rich variety of props ensures the composition doesn't look flat. These elements woven together perfectly echo the unique sense of abundance of the New Year. The lighting management during the shoot referenced the vintage portrait style, with the main light source tilting down from the upper side, creating a soft, warm halo along the character's outline edges.

During the shoot, we focused heavily on capturing a relaxed feel in the character's expression. The character Cheshire has a naturally innocent, slightly airheaded charm, so the expressions don't need to convey strong aggression; a natural smile paired with a slightly tilted head angle is perfectly sufficient. The red scroll in hand served as an interactive prop, adding a touch of narrativity to the frame. From the sitting posture to the forward-extended angle of the legs, we actually tried it many times on-site, and the final selected angle showcases the linear beauty of the legs without appearing forced.

Regarding the post-processing color tones and precision, while adhering to the character's original design and also matching the New Year cosplay theme, the color grading leans toward a high-contrast warm yellow style. The various red and gold accents were slightly enhanced, while the shadows in the background were maintained within a soft, deep brown range, ensuring the character subject always remains the visual focal point.

In fact, in this type of indoor studio setup, the exactness of the lighting determines the texture of the final photos. To shoot the layers of the white thigh-highs and the cozy feel of the entire frame, we specifically utilized continuous lights with adjustable color temperatures. This continuous light makes the catchlights in the eyes clearer and allows the blue-green color of the wig to produce a natural gradient luster.

This shooting experience was highly complete, with solid execution at every step, from character selection and costume style determination to light and shadow adjustment and body language guidance during the actual shoot. Ultimately, this set of images serves perfectly either as a New Year greeting photo or as a photography summary of this Cheshire Cosplay. Through this set of photos, I hope everyone can experience the unique charm brought by an Azur Lane character integrating into a Chinese-style scene during this traditional holiday.
