[Chien Wu cosplay] Azur Lane Chien Wu Qipao: Care for a Game of Chess?

Putting on this Azur Lane Chien Wu Qipao look and sitting on a chair with a folding fan for the final look check, the thought of "care for a game of chess?" naturally popped into my mind. The color combination of this costume is very bold, with the deep blue and bright red printed bodice area creating a strong visual contrast, which, together with the outer layer of a light peach-pink translucent robe, presents a unique texture somewhere between gorgeous and casual under warm lighting. Although the neckline design is quite revealing, the drape and transparency of that outer translucent shawl neutralize this perfectly, giving the overall styling both the expressiveness of an anime character and the soft aesthetics of daily wear.

For the headpiece, I chose a blue-and-white silk flower clipped onto the short hair on the right side. This slightly retro hair accessory pairs beautifully with the short black bob hair, outlining the facial contours nicely and making my overall aura look sharper. The thin black choker worn around the neck is the finishing touch; though it lacks complex pendants, it perfectly fills the negative space of the upper body, making the neckline appear longer. For the prop, I chose a dark folding fan, which can be playfully held when closed and provides excellent interaction for composition when opened, ensuring the frame is no longer restricted just to a fixed sitting posture.

For this set of mirror selfies, I deliberately experimented with two different shoe and sock styling states. When wearing the sheer black stockings and glossy black pointed high heels, my overall body lines were drawn very straight. In particular, that pair of thigh-high socks with wide black welt garters perfectly highlighted the contours of the legs when paired with the high heels, and the reflection from the polished marble floor added a cinematic quality. Conversely, taking off the shoes and finally going completely barefoot presented a completely different atmosphere. Through these subtle changes in the outfit, I wanted to convey that unique rhythm of relaxation, laziness, and confidence embedded in the character's setting.

Although the phone blocked my face and didn't reveal a complete expression, I actually put a lot of thought into the gaze and physical movements. The sitting pose needed to be relaxed but not slouched; crossing my legs or stretching them unevenly was all about finding the most harmonious proportion within the camera's vertical and horizontal composition. The dark wood-colored wall and off-white marble floor tiles in the background provided an excellent neutral tone, making the highly saturated blue and red costume the central visual focus. I also avoided excess clutter during shooting, keeping the frame as clean and crisp as possible.

The tailoring of this Qipao combines modern body-shaping elements with a traditional Chinese-style long hem design, allowing the skirt hem to spill naturally onto the floor when I am seated, creating a large area of flowing grace. The fabric texture is solid, unlike some cosplay costumes that reflect light harshly; its inherent soft luster better brings out the character's essence. For the character Chien Wu from Azur Lane, I hope to present her vivid, charming state.
