Today, I shot an Azur Lane Cyberpunk style look at a self-photo studio. The venue wasn't too crowded, so I was lucky enough to secure some great shooting spots. The ambiance on-site was fantastic—everyone was passionate about cosplay. From the moment I stepped in to get ready until wrapping up, the click of shutters around me rarely paused. The vibrant energy made the shoot an absolute blast. Since this was my first time doing an Azur Lane cosplay, I felt a little unsure before starting, wondering if my poses and expressions could genuinely nail that distant, cool Cyberpunk edge. But once the shoot began, the ambient lighting helped tremendously.
This look is centered on sleek, glossy black materials: a form-fitting mini dress paired with a medium-length purple wig and black patent-leather bunny ears. Sheer black mesh panels accent the chest, with high slits running up toward the hips, matched with sheer black Stockings and black patent-leather stilettos. To match the Cyberpunk concept, I brought a vintage-style microphone and a glowing white stick as props. My arms were adorned with glowing blue accents and black sleeves. Under the surrounding neon fixtures, the reflective sheen of the garments popped brilliantly, giving the overall texture exceptional dimension.
For makeup and styling, I opted for crystal-clear blue contact lenses, which formed a vibrant contrast against the purple hair. The focal points were the eye makeup and bold red lips; in a dark setting crossed by multicolored neon lights, facial contours and colors need sharper contrast to emerge from the background. During shooting, I focused closely on directing my gaze and adjusting body angles to emphasize the costume's cut and silhouette. For example, sitting on the sofa, keeping legs crossed elongated the lines, while standing poses highlighted waist curves, utilizing the microphone and light stick to give natural purpose to my hands.
We experimented with diverse compositions during the shoot. The photographer captured angles adeptly—whether low-angle or eye-level, the background displays and neon tubes were used effectively. Overlapping pink, purple, cyan, and blue lighting, complemented by high-gloss floor reflections, instantly elevated the Futuristic sci-fi style atmosphere. I struck singing poses with the microphone and dynamic interactive moves with the light stick, progressively easing into character as shutters clicked, showcasing the costume's subtle details and overarching aesthetics.
Sorting through the proofs back home, the results turned out so photogenic. The camera cleanly captured the specular highlights on the glossy materials under neon lights alongside that glamorous, cool Futuristic sci-fi style aura within overlapping shadows. With a high keeper rate, the afternoon's hard work felt entirely worth it. This shoot gave me much greater confidence with this aesthetic. Nailing a Cyberpunk theme relies heavily on harmony between attire and setting, with props serving as essential accents. Through this session, I picked up valuable insights on lighting synergy and expression control—making it a deeply fulfilling experience.
