Wearing this racing-themed outfit, the most direct feeling is the coexistence of coolness and heaviness. The deep blue Glossy material patent leather is extremely reflective under the strong lighting of the exhibition hall, which requires keeping the stomach pulled in and the chest pushed out at all times during the shoot, as the material itself accentuates body lines, and even the slightest slackness would be exposed by the reflections. The top is a midriff-baring bralette design, with silver holographic borders shifting colors at different angles; paired with a light blue bow tie, the overall visual center of gravity is relatively high. For the wide-sleeved outer jacket, I deliberately chose an off-the-shoulder half-draped way of wearing it; letting the sleeves drop down adds layers to the image, while the long white ribbons hanging from the garment edges flutter while walking, though one must always take care not to let the ribbons tangle with the gloves.
Although the mechanical bunny ears and goggles on top of the head look striking, securing them took quite a bit of effort, requiring several bobby pins firmly clipped to the wig cap, and the goggle strap had to be adjusted so as not to pinch the forehead. The light purple-gray long straight wig, paired with pink-toned contact lenses and a ruddy lip makeup, creates great color contrast against the red backdrop. The black fingerless gloves on both hands not only add a tactical vibe but also cover the hand joints, making the lines of the hands crisper when posing.
The deep blue glossy ultra-short shorts on the bottom are made of the same material as the top, with a white belt at the waist serving to segment the lines. What satisfied me most was this pair of purple glossy Over-the-knee boots. The zippers and black strap details at the top of the boot shaft are rich, and the over-the-knee length visually greatly elongates the proportions of the lower body. However, glossy boots are very sensitive to lighting; one needs to find good angles to capture that sleek, glossy reflection rather than a plastic feel. Because the boots are form-fitting, the muscle tension in the thighs is also captured by the lens when squatting or leaning against oil drums, so poses must cleverly utilize angles to play to strengths and downplay weaknesses.
The set decoration for this Summer Festival was very thoughtful, with black-and-white checkered floor mats and red tire props creating an intense racing competition atmosphere. The on-site red backdrop and bold English slogans make the picture's colors very saturated. But shooting deep blue clothing against such a large area of red background is a test for camera white balance—without careful attention, the clothing easily turns purplish. Therefore, in terms of lighting, we specifically added cool-toned fill light to restore the original deep blue hue of the patent leather, while the intense light also allowed the holographic borders of the bralette to display beautiful rainbow reflections.
While shooting this photo set, I also experimented with different body languages. The first shot raised arms to stretch the waist and abdomen, the second leaned forward to create interaction, the third gave an OK gesture to display confidence, and the fourth pulled the arms inward to highlight the waistline. Holding these poses for a long time was actually very physically exhausting, especially keeping the leg muscles tightened while wearing Over-the-knee boots. The white ribbons on the arms and the wide cuffs easily block the line of sight, so before changing each pose, the clothes had to be smoothed out first to prevent the composition from looking messy.
Overall, although this outfit carries certain sexy elements, because it incorporates racing, mechanical, and tactical styles, it presents more of a capable and cool aesthetic. The breathlessness of the fabric meant I had to find a fan to cool down between shooting breaks, but seeing the texture of light and shadow flowing across the Glossy material in the photos made all these adjustments and persistence feel worthwhile. In the complex lighting and crowded environment of an anime expo, being able to support the frame relying on body language and the tension of the material itself was also a great shooting experience.
