The convention photos are finally here! This time, I'm bringing everyone the beloved long black straight hair look of Yat Sen from Azur Lane. At the convention venue, I selected this white lace halter top paired with black shorts and over-the-knee black hosiery in a Black tights outfit. The classic monochrome black-and-white color scheme and high visual contrast made this styling stand out immediately amidst the bustling convention crowd.
Let's start with the hair and makeup. To capture Yat Sen's gentle yet subtly aloof aura, I wore a sleek long black straight wig with blunt bangs, accented on the side with a white floral hair accessory and red tassels. These delicate details broke up any potential heaviness of the long black hair, adding exquisite polish. For makeup, I opted for earth-toned eyeshadow, focusing on sharpening the gaze to ensure my overall expression conveyed composed poise and confidence.
Regarding garment textures, this cold-shoulder top is rich with intricate lace details, and the halter cut beautifully frames the neck and collarbones. While many refer to this as a cheongsam, pairing a top with shorts is actually far more practical for moving around at a convention, preserving classical oriental elegance while offering modern mobility. The black shorts paired with wide-band over-the-knee Black tights outfit visually elongated leg contours. Adding white footwear was the finishing touch; since monochrome contrast is the core visual theme, the white round-toe high heels not only echoed the top, but also gave the lower body silhouette a clean, crisp finish.
The shoot took place inside a relatively spacious indoor hall, where industrial steel rafters and geometric grid lighting provided a clean, cool-toned backdrop. This setting tested lighting management while naturally yielding sophisticated atmospheric shots imbued with cool elegance. Posing seated on a tall stool gracefully extended my leg lines while creating a visual balance of commanding poise and subtle languor. Lightly lifting the hemline of my top gave the garment a fluid, dynamic shape—a moment frozen by the shutter that resonated deeply with Yat Sen's serene, profound character in Anime-style photography.
I was delighted to collaborate with the photographer, who used a Sony A7C II paired with a 28-75mm G2 lens for this shoot. This focal range was exceptionally practical for convention venues, capable of establishing ambient context while capturing tight portrait frames, with wide-aperture bokeh making the subject pop cleanly. The photographer's handling of cool color tones in post-processing aligned perfectly with the styling's temperament, preserving natural skin textures while accentuating spatial depth.
The convention energy was truly electrifying. Although crowds aren't prominent in the background of these shots, numerous fellow fans surrounded us before and after shooting. Being able to find calm amidst such vibrant energy to create clean photographs was a wonderful experience. The color palette was remarkably restrained, yet this simplicity allowed post-processing to emphasize fabric textures and character poise, delivering a wonderfully crisp visual feel.
Cosplaying goes far beyond replicating a character—it is also a playful creative journey with oneself. Exploring styles outside daily routine through wardrobe and makeup, and expressing them before the lens, brings immense fulfillment. This long black hair styling, combined with the white top, Black tights outfit, and white heels, fully fulfilled my vision of Yat Sen's cool and elegant allure. These Convention photos continue to linger in my memory long after the convention ended, as if transmuting the venue's bustle and passion into a moment of pure serenity and focus before the camera.
