This time, I chose Ami Mizuno's casual school uniform version. Distinct from the battle senshi uniform everyone is familiar with, casual wear is actually trickier to pull off—because of its everyday feel, the simpler the garments, the more they test one's grasp of the character's core demeanor. The casual Sailor suit from Sailor Moon features a white body with a blue collar, accented by a red ribbon bow across the chest and a blue pleated skirt below, creating an exceptionally crisp, bright palette. To keep the outfit from looking flat or cheap, I carefully pressed and ironed both the blouse and skirt hemline before heading out, ensuring the silhouette stayed crisp and structured before the camera.

The wig was the centerpiece of this styling. Ami Mizuno's blue short bob has very defined layering; I trimmed the bangs and sideburns in advance because bangs that are too dense make the overall expression appear stiff, so I deliberately thinned them out for texture. Hairnets and strong styling spray were essential to hold everything in place, and walking around the convention floor meant constantly checking and smoothing stray strands to prevent frizz. For contact lenses, I selected deep blue lenses paired with an expansive wash of soft pink blush and clean, refined eye makeup, striving to convey her blend of gentle warmth and calm, intellectual composure. The foundation was chosen for long-wearing durability since convention photos demand hours beneath harsh hall lighting, so oil-control powder and touch-up tools stayed right by my side.

Because the casual outfit looks quite grounded, passersby at the convention often mistook it for an ordinary JK school uniform, which was actually quite fun. During the shoot, I carried a vintage brown school bag to enhance the student academy aesthetic. In terms of posing, I explored a front-facing greeting wave and a profile glance over the shoulder—waving brought out a friendly, approachable sense of interaction, while glancing back emphasized the flowing flare of the pleated skirt. Chasing flattering light in a bustling, crowded convention hall was an art in itself; we maximized overhead venue lighting and soft wall bounces to ensure even illumination across the face.

Ultimately, cosplaying a classic retro anime character stems deeply from nostalgia and love. Ami Mizuno's rationality, intellect, and profound tenderness toward her comrades remain just as touching after all these years. While casual clothing lacks flashy gear, it is precisely this ordinary appearance that lets me connect with her everyday, relatable humanity. Even though the shoot required constant tweaking of the collar and hair, seeing that serene, calm aura unique to Sailor Mercury in the final frames made every bit of meticulous preparation thoroughly worthwhile.
