[Furina Cosplay] Letters from the Deep: Grandly Embodying the Hydro Archon's Demeanor

This shoot attempted to materialize Furina's blend of elegance and aloof pride. Under the theme "Letters from the Deep," we selected two starkly contrasting lighting environments to recreate her distinct attributes.

First was the costume preparation before shooting. The design details were extensive, particularly the wide-brimmed black top hat—intricate lace and pearl decorations along the brim, paired with dangling delicate metal chains, provided dynamic sway when moving. While the hat offered superior silhouette presence for a Gothic style look, it posed a considerable challenge for head movements, requiring constant angle adjustments to avoid off-center balance. The wig used a silver-white and light blue blended texture, styled into soft curls, with her signature flipped ahoge fixed securely at the crown. To match her cool, profound gaze, I wore blue-red gradient contact lenses, complemented by matching eye makeup colors that look vibrant in deep blue settings.

The main costume is a gorgeous dress with a black base and white pleats. The upper body features an off-the-shoulder corseted black design accented with crisscross lacing and a large white bow at the chest, which tightly cinches the silhouette. The layered dark blue ruffled sleeve covers are dotted with translucent blue diamond-shaped gems, possessing a velvety texture that contrasts nicely with the gloves. Most striking is the lower white skirt—the fabric carries a shell or pearlescent glossy finish that, paired with blue-and-white ink-wash gradient shading along the bottom, reveals rich structural layers under light. The legs were styled with black straps, star-cross metal buckles, and black lace-up high-heeled Martin boots, adding a touch of crisp strength and sharp elegance to the grand outfit.

The shooting process was split into two parts. The first setting took place before tall, white gothic arched windows, where soft, bright natural light filtered through white gauze and flowers to build a pure, sacred atmosphere. This perspective focused on bringing out the white undertones and pristine elegance of the costume; my posture needed to remain upright and proud, with my hands naturally gripping the long-handled wand featuring gold and blue crystal textures to convey a welcoming yet noble posture.

The second setup shifted entirely to an ethereal blue underwater atmosphere. Translucent jellyfish and shimmering blue water caustics floated across the background while I sat on a white shell-shaped prop chair. The cool-toned lighting in this setup heavily tested the reflective qualities of the costume fabrics. Within this setting, the skirt's pearlescence, garment gems, and contact lens reflections became much more pronounced, working together with a serene facial expression to convey the deep sea's quiet mystery.

During shooting, holding the long-handled wand required prolonged adjustments to seamlessly connect with arm lines while ensuring it didn't obscure the front chest bow or facial profile. When capturing a look with such intricate details in Cosplay photography, I frequently asked an assistant between takes to refine the direction of the hat brim and sleeve ruffles to guarantee pristine composition. Overall, the contrast between pure white and deep blue successfully merged the costume's ethereal quality with the character's imposing aura. Beyond the exquisite outfit design and set framing, I hope these photos convey Furina's inherent pride and decisive resolve.
