Choosing an open-air pool for this Azur Lane Bismarck cosplay (Bismarck cosplay) Swimsuit cosplay shoot was primarily aimed at capturing a refreshing summer coolness distinct from her canonical in-game artwork (Pool photoshoot). The midday sun blazed intensely on the day of the shoot with harsh overhead direct light, presenting quite a technical challenge. To keep facial lighting soft and flattering, we constantly sought out diffuse illumination at the edge of parasols or leveraged shimmering water refractions to bounce light onto my face, keeping cool porcelain skin looking luminous and translucent under the summer sun.
The wig was styled into a pale-blonde high ponytail. To maintain its airy volume in the wind, I applied plenty of setting spray beforehand; however, the poolside was breezy and humid, frequently blowing bangs across my face, requiring continuous adjustments. The hair-tucking gesture in Photo 2 was actually an organic reaction caught just as a gust swept past. High-saturation blue contact lenses paired with reddish-pink eye makeup allowed my gaze to retain piercing depth even in intense sunlight. The sunglasses perched atop my head served as a chic accent, harmonizing with the delicate gold necklace around my neck.
For the wardrobe, aligning with the pool theme, I chose a glossy black one-piece swimsuit. This material reflects light intensely in direct sunshine; to avoid blown-out specular highlights, the photographer continuously fine-tuned exposure parameters. Draped over it was a black semi-sheer chiffon cover-up, which shielded against harsh UV rays while fluttering gently in the breeze to enrich visual depth. However, glossy swimwear has a notorious quirk—it catches fingerprints and water spots with ease. After every dip into the water or pose adjustment, it had to be immediately wiped clean with a dry cloth to preserve its immaculate sheen before the lens.
The shooting process was an endurance test of stamina and patience. Kneeling on the stone steps in Photo 1 looked docile and poised, but the stones were scorching hot under the sun, requiring pinpoint balance to steady my center of gravity. Sitting on the poolside in Photo 2, extending both legs forward visually elongated leg proportions, while dipping one foot into the pool leveraged water refractions to add dynamic vitality. The contrast between wet skin and dry skin creates subtle tonal discrepancies, demanding delicate transitions during post-processing to keep the skin tones smooth and natural.
I've always loved Bismarck as a character—she typically exudes a commanding, composed, and even aloof dignity. Experimenting with this Swimsuit cosplay was an attempt to weave vibrant summer energy into her trademark cool aura. Throughout shooting, I consciously maintained a detached yet effortlessly relaxed presence.
