The Cheshire Cosplay from Azur Lane that I had been preparing for so long was finally scheduled this weekend. This blue-and-white Blue Lolita dress was purchased a year ago and kept tucked away in the back of my wardrobe; today, I finally had the time and mood to take it out and properly style it. Many might wonder if dealing with such an intricate styling is troublesome, but in truth, from wig styling and fluffing the skirt volume to matching makeup tones, every step is about getting as close as possible to the core of the character.
For this shoot, I selected a highly recognizable silver-grey wig with striking cyan-blue highlights. The wide-brimmed hat features an exaggerated, deeply three-dimensional design, lending a fairytale aesthetic to my overall proportions once worn. The eye makeup used blue-grey contact lenses paired with sparkly star-diamond glitter at the corners of the eyes, refracting a shimmering visual effect under the light. When doing this kind of anime Lolita-style cosplay in 2D daily life, the expression in the eyes is paramount—it needs to carry lively charm within an everyday feel, and I adjusted in front of the mirror for a long time to nail that buoyant grace.
The craftsmanship of the garment is truly exquisite: the corset lace-up design in front sculpts the waistline beautifully, while the off-the-shoulder cut and puffy sleeves not only add layered depth to the Cosplay outfit but also accentuate the collarbones and neckline. I accessorized with a pearl necklace, half-finger lace gloves, and a small white folding fan prop to make the frame richer and more complete. This type of indoor and location shooting sets high demands for lighting and angles, as insufficient lighting easily blends the blue-and-white layers together.
The shooting process was mainly carried out in front of real wooden staircases and wooden cabinets at home. The wooden handrails, intertwined artificial flower vines, and pink accents formed a wonderful warm-and-cool contrast with this blue-toned Blue Lolita dress. I tried both mirror selfies and handheld solo shots; because the skirt uses an enormous volume of tulle along with a long trailing veil in the back, walking on the stairs made it somewhat easy to step on the hem. However, the greatest advantage of this outfit is how the skirt forms a flowy, voluminous silhouette in motion, full of breathing room and dynamism.
Wearing a dress with such a massive skirt in daily life truly takes courage; having held onto it for over a year before bringing it out, today finally fulfilled this little wish. The blue, white, and grey palette presents subtle texture differences between natural daylight and white studio light; the cool daytime lighting makes the garment feel like it was brushed by an ocean breeze, and I absolutely love this contrast of cool poise and sweetness. I am thoroughly satisfied with the final photos—they did not let down a year of anticipation. Bringing Cheshire's unique liveliness and elegance to life before the camera serves as a delightful personal milestone in my 2D daily life.
