This official Touhou Project Komeiji Satori cosplay set was shot on an early summer afternoon when the hydrangeas were in full bloom. Finding a location that possessed both natural wilderness and a touch of classical ambiance was the key to this creation, and we ultimately chose this secret garden filled with a carved wooden piano and a yard full of hydrangeas. For the costume design, I chose this light blue and pale pink color-blocked Lolita dress. It not only has a soft, fluffy skirt hem, but the blue-gray lace stitched at the cuffs adds a light, sheer perspective. The large light-beige bow on the chest, combined with intricate ruffles, perfectly counterbalances the character's slightly melancholic temperament, adding a touch of youthful innocence to her. The wig is a specially trimmed light pink short wig; its slightly voluminous curve fits the character setting perfectly, while the gem hair accessories on the side and the pink-purple braids became the highlights of the entire look.
Regarding props, that red single-eye tentacle prop is the "soul" of the entire styling. It wasn't easy to integrate it naturally into the frame; we had to prevent the prop from stealing the visual focus away from the character while using it to emphasize the abilities of Komeiji Satori. During the shoot, I tried many different ways of holding it, including composing shots with a hydrangea bouquet, placing the red prop against the blue flowers to create a visually striking contrast. In terms of makeup, the focus was on the eyes; the pink-orange eyeshadow made the eyes look deeper, paired with light pink lips to create a quiet, soft aura. In front of the lens, most of the time I kept my gaze slightly cast down or simply closed my eyes, hoping to convey the introvertedness and mystery of the character's "closing eyes brings dreams" concept.
For this shoot, we chose the lighting around 3:00 to 4:00 PM, where the dappled light filtering through the tree canopy acted as a natural softbox. The sunlight came from the side and behind, casting a golden halo over my hair strands, giving the entire set a dreamy, breathing feel. Shooting in a garden is actually a great test of the photographer's candid capture abilities, because when the gentle breeze blows, both the hydrangeas and the skirt hem will gently sway, making that fleeting moment of agility very precious. I really love the front close-up shot holding the bouquet; not only is the lighting beautifully soft-focused, but the subtle sense of aloofness and earnestness reflecting in my eyes caught even me by surprise. Collaborating with the photographer Wakaba is always seamless; he always manages to capture my subtle changes in expression, freezing the character's most authentic state within the frame. Actually, getting bitten by mosquitoes during the shoot was a daily occurrence, but thinking about how the finished photos achieved the "gentle dreamland" atmosphere in my heart, it was all worth it. I hope this set of Touhou Project Komeiji Satori cosplay photos, tinged with garden fantasy, allows you to see the sincerity and ingenuity I put into interpreting this character.
