Once this styling for Aoba Suzukaze cosplay was locked in, the very first step was scheduling a white cyclorama Studio shoot. Characters from NEW GAME! possess unmistakable visual identity, so our primary focus was on faithfully recreating garment textures while capturing the character's lively dynamism. The wig selected was light-purple twin tails; to prevent the hair strands from looking stiff or lifeless, I carefully calibrated the curls with a flat iron before the shoot. Topped with the pink-trimmed black cat ears, the overall silhouette sprang to life immediately. For makeup, applying a generous blush beneath the eyes was key; paired with purplish-grey contact lenses, it aligned effortlessly with the innocent charm of 2D character aesthetics, delivering a radiant, clear complexion against the neutral grey backdrop in this Anime-style photography session.
The garment craftsmanship deserves close appreciation. While the black camisole dress appears deceptively simple, the white pleated ruffles along the neckline and the crimson bow accented with pink polka dots are rich with intricate detail. The wide scarlet satin sash tied into a bow at the waist not only raises the visual waistline, but also introduces a lively pop of color against the dominant black fabric. The pink plush fur trim circling the hemline is the true soul of the dress, swaying with a soft, fuzzy texture during movement and posing. Regarding props, I shaped the slender black tail into a natural curving sweep behind me to keep it from hanging down stiffly.
Because this was a Studio shoot in a white/grey studio, lighting required meticulous precision. Black satin reflects light quite easily; if the key light was positioned dead-center, the dress fabric would wash out with harsh specular glare. Therefore, I had the key light positioned slightly high and to the side, simultaneously illuminating my face and tracing the graceful contours of my neck, shoulders, and dress silhouette. A top light served as a rim accent on my hair, giving the purple wig a delicate sheen and rich dimensionality against the grey background. Paired with over-the-knee Black stockings and platform Mary Janes, the outfit dramatically elongated my leg proportions. When shooting seated poses, I deliberately crossed one leg over the other, utilizing the step ladder's elevation to emphasize the extended leg lines while pointing my instep slightly to ensure a fluid visual transition between the shoes and Black stockings.
The entire shoot demanded strict posture management. Sitting on the step ladder, one couldn't completely relax; the core and back had to engage firmly to preserve an upright, lithe torso. Tilting my face slightly kept facial angles crisp while allowing the tail prop to enter the frame naturally. Hand placement was equally essential—gently resting a wrist against a knee or the ladder's edge kept gestures organic rather than rigid. The final images shot against the grey cyclorama turned out remarkably clean with harmonious color contrast and zero visual distractions, keeping full attention on the costume details and character portrayal. On a personal level, this was a thoroughly fulfilling creative project that provided valuable practical experience in managing dark-toned attire, makeup balance, and lighting dynamics during a Studio shoot.
