[Bronya cosplay] Winter Fireworks of Herrscher of Reason in Honkai Impact 3rd

The first three photos were all taken outdoors. The temperature that day was extremely low, and standing where the wind cut through made me shiver uncontrollably; the burning sparks from the sparklers in hand became the only source of warmth. I used to joke about being the "Herrscher of Freezing Endurance," but the reality was that this Herrscher of Reason outfit was far too thin to withstand the biting cold, so I had to keep moving around constantly just to stay warm. Many people assumed we lit small sparklers indoors, but we actually endured the freezing outdoor wind along walkways and scenic spots with Outdoor fireworks. My hands were freezing numb, and even lighting the sparklers took considerable effort.

For shooting Bronya from Honkai Impact 3rd this time, a lot of preparation went into the makeup and styling. The silver drill twin-tails took hours to groom and set in place; because of the dramatic curl, they easily lost shape, giving the stylist quite a workout. Moreover, although this blue, black, and white fitted dress looks incredibly cool, the fabric is relatively stiff and the off-the-shoulder cut meant my movements couldn't be too large; otherwise, the costume would deform and light reflections would become hard to control. To avoid an empty look on the lower half, I styled it with long stockings as part of the Stocking outfit. The lines of the legs paired with the structured silhouette of the dress create a powerful visual impact.

During the shoot, to capture the sparklers at their brightest, the photographer adjusted the aperture and shutter speed numerous times. The first two close-ups were quite demanding on facial expression management, as it is easy to squint under intense light. The full-body shot was the most challenging for posture: I needed to angle my body slightly to showcase the lines of the bodysuit and legs while keeping the hair and headpieces perfectly stable. In the frigid air, exhaled breath was also a hurdle for the camera, requiring careful timing to keep close-up facial portraits crisp and clear.

While the silver spiral curls look stunning, each heavy coil required numerous bobby pins to secure firmly, leaving my scalp somewhat numb from the pressure. The metallic parts on the headpieces were icy cold in winter; putting them on required gritting my teeth for the first few minutes until my skin adapted. Though the entire costume and styling were exquisite, the process was quite an ordeal. Between takes, I could only bundle up in a thick down coat and sip hot water to warm up before taking the coat off to shoot again.

Recreating the intricate head structure of the Herrscher of Reason pushed our shooting schedule much longer than anticipated. Besides securing the wig, perfecting the eye makeup was essential to convey that calm, detached gaze. While sparklers make great props, they burn down quickly, so the photographer kept a fresh box handy by our side as we repeatedly swapped, lit, adjusted angles, and snapped the shutter in the dark. That tacit teamwork late into the night was a truly enjoyable experience.

Because the skirt hem is long, it was easy to step on while walking, especially when navigating walkways where I had to bend over and lift it. Finding the right angle for the full-body cover photo took a long time standing in place, requiring an upright posture, engaged core, and disciplined muscle tension. Looking back at the photos, that freezing night left behind a lot of beautiful memories. My biggest takeaway from this set is that no matter how cold it gets, once you embody the character, you naturally channel their presence. Shooting in winter outdoors is truly a unique experience—though physically demanding, the resulting atmosphere was completely unmatched. Seeing the final results made all the hard work worth every second.

Rather than chasing abstract perfection, it was all about experiencing the character and feeling the interplay of winter light and shadow.
