The costume design for this Aglaea Cosplay is exceptionally exquisite, particularly the intricate 3D golden embossed patterns across the chest and waist. When trying it on for the first time, figuring out the order of putting on the neckline accessories and armbands was the biggest headache—any misalignment could easily make the silhouette look bulky. Styling the wig also took considerable effort; the original character's fringe curve is unique, requiring repeated styling with a flat iron to prevent it from drooping while maintaining a naturally fluffy texture so that a gentle breeze would create an airy, flowing movement.
We prepared two scene concepts for the shoot. In Photo 1, the lighting was bright as I leaned against the window, basking in the cascading natural light paired with draping champagne tulle to create an ethereal, fairy-like ambiance. The clean white curtains and geometric tiled flooring served as a minimalist backdrop that highlighted the intricate details of the costume and props. The black-and-gold thigh band was the crowning touch of the outfit, breaking the monochrome white and adding a crisp, knightly edge. However, maintaining balance while barefoot with crossed legs in this pose was quite a test of core strength.
In Photo 2, we moved indoors to a Western-style setting beside a long banquet table, where I switched into matching lace-up high-heeled sandals with sheer stockings—the most vital piece of this stocking outfit. The wooden texture of the long table, the white tablecloth, and the towering Roman pillars in the background instantly brought a narrative depth to the scene. Leaning against the armrest of the chair required steadying the massive black-and-gold weapon beside me. This sword was surprisingly heavy, making holding it with one hand quite strenuous throughout the shoot, but standing upright on the floor gave it an imposing presence that truly elevated the character's majestic aura.
Comparing the two photos, I personally prefer the atmosphere of Photo 2 because its richer spatial depth better showcases the character's poise. When portraying characters of this type, I focus heavily on the expression in the eyes. Aglaea embodies a worldly composure combined with a subtle, elusive detachment. In terms of facial control, I chose to look directly into the lens with a calm, confident gaze rather than exaggerated expressions, which enhanced the 2D character's enigmatic aura.
The focus for this shoot was maintaining a luminous, transparent look. For makeup, I toned down the eyeshadow saturation and emphasized the eyeliner and lashes to add depth to the eyes. Paired with pale blonde hair and emerald contact lenses, it created a cool yet graceful presence. The golden arm wraps and flowing ribbons restricted my range of motion, meaning every gesture had to be deliberate with elongated lines—which is part of the fun when shooting such ornate costumes.
From a post-processing perspective, Photo 1 leans toward a soft high-key tone, perfect for highlighting delicate skin texture and silky hair, while Photo 2 features richer tones—the reddish-brown floor tiles, dark gray chair, and white formal dress tablecloth creating contrasts that make the subject pop. Whether barefoot in Photo 1 or donning heels in the stocking outfit of Photo 2, every element harmonized with the props to bring out the character's defining traits. It was an absolute joy collaborating on this shoot; the photographer captured the angles perfectly, doing justice to the dashing nobility and purity of the character.
