This time for Elysia's swimwear shoot, a lot of thought went into it right from the preparation stage. The wig was the first difficulty; if the pink-white gradient and curls weren't handled well, it could easily look cheap or frizzy. To achieve that fluffy and natural effect, I used a curling iron beforehand to readjust the direction of the hair strands, and teased the hair roots. To maintain the three-dimensional feel on top of the head, an invisible hairnet was padded inside, and finally a large amount of hairspray was sprayed to barely achieve the ideal support. Because large movements easily ruined the styling, I kept carefully brushing and adjusting during shooting breaks.
There are truly many details in the clothing. The main purple bikini paired with a large amount of white ruffles is actually heavier than expected when worn. Especially the gold metal chain at the waist is not only a decoration, but also visually flatters the waistline nicely. The trumpet sleeve design of the sleeve covers is gorgeous, but they also easily get stuck on the arms, requiring constant attention to tidy up. To match this swimwear, I specially chose purple-pink colored contact lenses, and the eye makeup used a pearlescent pink base, deepening the outer corner of the eye with a slight purple tone, paired with a watery lip glaze, hoping to get closer to the character's sweet yet slightly sexy atmosphere. For the base makeup, to ensure makeup longevity during long shoots, I used a relatively durable setting spray and tried to choose matte loose powder.
The shooting scene was an indoor tropical beach studio. Although the plants and sandy ground in the background were props, the creation of light and shadow was crucial. I communicated with the photographer for a long time; to highlight the skin texture, the main light source was very soft, coming from the front-side. At the same time, some pink-purple ambient lights were added to the background, making the overall tone of the photos more dreamy and filled with that sultry yet energetic summer feeling. The reflector was also constantly adjusted in angle to ensure there were no weird shadows on the face.
When posing, it actually tested body control quite a bit. For example, in the shots sitting on the ground, to make the leg lines look slender without appearing too stiff, I had to secretly tense my toes, bend my knees slightly, and keep my back straight. Hand gestures also went through several attempts, wanting to be natural while showcasing the character's playfulness. To avoid a cluttered frame, we repeatedly adjusted the camera position, and finally decided to use a white wooden plank platform as a foreground and support, which not only gave the frame more layering, but also highlighted the subject status of the character while slightly blurring the clutter in the background.
In this set of photos, I hope to restore the character's relaxed atmosphere on the summer beach, while also adding my own understanding of the sweet style. From the placement of props, such as the inflatable swimming ring and wooden barrel next to me, to the overall color matching, everything was an effort to create that cool and dreamy visual effect. Although the process was somewhat tiring, seeing the final photos made me feel all the preparations were worth it. I also hope that through this set of photos, this relaxed mood of the summer seaside can be passed on to everyone.
