[Saiba Midori cosplay] Blue Archive Midori's Kitchen Maid Cooking Diary

Today's Saiba Midori shoot was completed in a cozy kitchen setting filled with wooden furnishings. To fit the atmosphere of the character cooking, we specifically chose a space brimming with glass storage jars and wooden display racks, radiating a rich, lived-in charm.

The wardrobe details are truly worth scrutinizing. This Maid outfit, featuring a navy blue base paired with a crisp white apron, boasts sharply tailored, dimensional lines. The oversized light blue bow at the collar serves as the visual anchor, so I carefully adjusted it over and over to make sure it lay completely flat and neat. The linear accents on the cuffs and skirt hem needed to stay crisp and straight, so I made sure to iron them thoroughly before the shoot. For the wig, I styled light blonde twintails; shaping the curvature of the hair ends required genuine patience, especially when putting on the Cyber cat headset prop, where I had to tread carefully to avoid pressing unsightly dents into the wig. The green halo prop overhead is fitted with an internal LED strip; to capture a clear, luminous glow on camera, aperture and shutter speed settings had to be dialed in with precision.

For makeup, to harmonize with the character's green irises, the eye makeup utilized soft, translucent tones to balance the cooler hues, complemented by a lightweight, long-lasting foundation base. Because the kitchen was a relatively enclosed space and moving around in a long-sleeved dress to test poses easily induced sweating, setting the makeup thoroughly was essential.

The shooting spot was centered around the windowsill. Natural light filtering through the window cast a stunning rim light along my silhouette. While sitting on the wooden windowsill, leg placement was particularly critical: the pose in photo 2 was finalized after numerous adjustments—leaning my center of gravity slightly back with one leg dangling freely—which not only centered the composition but also visually elongated the silhouette. The White stockings were prone to snagging on the wooden sill, so every shift in position required extra caution to keep coarse wood splinters from catching the fabric. The pose in photo 1 holding a cookie near my mouth was designed to fit the 'let's eat together' theme, keeping the wrist softly curved and the eyes lively to convey an effortless, natural presence.

In the background, glass jars on the shelves were filled with oatmeal, nuts, and pasta, alongside pizza-shaped fridge magnets; while subtle background dressing, these props vastly enriched the visual depth of the frame. The window glass also caught the reflections of the twintails and glowing halo from behind, a reflective nuance I actively played with during shooting.

The entire shoot took around three hours, demanding rigorous control over every stage from set styling and makeup to lighting adjustments. Metallic surfaces on the sink and refrigerator tended to generate harsh glare spots, requiring careful angling to bypass them. Tidying the kitchen back to its original state after wrapping felt just like finishing an authentic day of cooking. While it was a cosplay shoot, embedding the character into such a grounded, everyday setting made for a wonderful photographic experiment.
