[Cheshire Cosplay] Azur Lane: Sweet Catgirl Maid at Firefly ACG Expo

The convention photos of Cheshire at the Firefly ACG Expo are finally fully retouched! This time I cosplayed Cheshire from Azur Lane. The main color scheme is black and white, paired with this custom aqua-blue gradient short wig, giving off a very refreshing and sweet anime aesthetic. Model: @祖木子-. Let's talk about the outfit coordination details first. The maid headpiece features an intricate cat-ear shape, enriched with plentiful white lace trimming and various sizes of white bows, creating rich visual depth. The skirt consists of black fabric spliced with a white ruffled apron, featuring lacing details across the chest and a thin black choker with a heart pendant—packed with details! The sleeves use sheer lace gloves; the semi-transparent material is very breathable, creating a great visual contrast with the thick black-and-white fabric. The wooden tray held in hand, along with that dorky yellow chick plush inside, served as the soul props of this styling, making hand interactions look incredibly natural.

The hair color is definitely worth mentioning—a gradient from ice blue on top to gray-blue underneath, which glitters softly under real light and feels much airier than standard wigs. To prepare for this Firefly ACG Expo, a lot of thought went into everything from makeup to outfit setup. The eye makeup used a subtle reddish lower-lid blend, which makes skin look fairer and complexion more lively under the venue's cool-toned lighting.

Moving on to the shooting process. The overhead lighting at the convention venue was quite complex, with many high-intensity spotlights shining down directly. Without a large aperture, the background would look extremely cluttered or even overexposed and distracting. The photographer professionally used a shallow depth of field (large aperture) setting, perfectly blurring the towering convention hall ceiling and the dense crowds of booth visitors behind, instantly turning overhead venue lights into round, gorgeous light spots. This dreamy bokeh boosted the photo set's overall texture dramatically. I felt the candid "glance back" in the first photo had great feeling, capturing the body curve when turned sideways while delivering strong eye-contact connection. To execute this pose well, we adjusted standing positions multiple times—both to avoid crowd flow near booths and to ensure lighting hit the face from above-side angles to create a natural skin glow.

Wearing a skirt with such complex construction at a convention is honestly not easy. While layered petticoats look gorgeous, watching my steps constantly was necessary to avoid stepping on the hem while walking around. However, as a cosplay enthusiast, being able to faithfully restore this character and present my best side in front of the camera makes all the effort well worth it. When walking around in the complete outfit, the black ribbons and white lace trim swayed gently with movement, creating a deeply soothing visual dynamic.

In terms of camera angles, beyond the back-turned glance in the first photo, the second photo with an extended hand offers fun interaction—as if offering the little yellow chick to you or saying hello. The third photo adopts a more poised tray-holding posture, fully showcasing the black-and-white color coordination and body proportions. To make convention photos look more professional, deliberately avoiding cluttered background elements and leveraging large aperture blur to highlight the subject itself is the visual quality I currently strive for in Cosplay photography.

Because convention hall lighting environments are quite complex, skin tone distortions or color temperature shifts occasionally happen. Thankfully, these photos maintained clean, sharp light and shadow; the cool ambient light made the black-and-white Catgirl maid outfit look even purer.
