This Cheshire New Year Qipao cosplay photoshoot set was completed in a Chongqing photography studio. The entire theme of the shoot was to catch the tail end of the New Year and max out the booming, festive atmosphere.

Let's first chat about the design of this costume. Actually, to shoot Azur Lane's Cheshire, we also prepared many backup options, but ultimately felt that this red and white modified Qipao was the most suitable. The dress body is made of a red silk-textured fabric adorned with golden three-dimensional embroidery patterns. Black was used for the patchwork section on the chest, keeping the overall look from being entirely red and looking too singular. The hollowed-out design at the collar, paired with a decorative choker featuring pearls and bows, adds a lot of detailed texture.

The fur collar shawl is a crucial prop for the shoot. The pure white faux fur is very thick; draped over the shoulders and arms, it forms a classic red-and-white color contrast with the red dress. This contrast is highly effective in front of the lens, while the plush texture also makes the overall look appear more luxurious and warm, carrying a strong winter festival atmosphere. The high slit at the hem, paired with white over-the-knee socks with lace trim and beige pointed high heels, displays the leg lines while preserving an elegant sexiness.

For the makeup and hair this time, I chose a gray-blue wig that fits Cheshire's original setting. The part of the front bangs covering the eyes includes Cheshire's iconic teal highlight. The cat ears headwear on top of the head was customized and modified, with a ring of white plush fabric added to the edge, and complex hair buns decorated with large red flowers and white mesh ribbons at the back. This hair accessory combined with the gray hair makes the character's head styling very full, looking highly photogenic from different angles.

Let's talk about the shooting environment. The first set of photos was shot in front of a pure red background wall, with a faux rockery and branches full of red plum blossoms standing beside it. The prop team set up an old-fashioned wooden armchair and a Go table, with black chess canisters and the board neatly arranged. The red backdrop wall, black rockery, and red plum blossoms coordinated beautifully with Cheshire's outfit, making the composition well-centered. The sitting and standing postures from the front and side beautifully showcased the tailoring of this Qipao.

The second set shifted to the real-scene area. Carved wooden window lattices and lacquer-red walls reveal a rich traditional Chinese style. The natural light and shadow here are amazing, especially with the sunlight filtering through the wooden window frames and illuminating the red wall of the corridor, forming diamond-shaped light spots. Under this lighting, I held a red envelope prop, casually leaning against the window or standing with my back to the camera. The final back view photo had the light hit right on the shoulders, allowing people to clearly see the tailoring of the back of the costume and the puffiness of the fur collar. This utilization of light and shadow carries a stronger narrative feel than pure studio shoots, enriching the layers of the photos significantly.

Shooting Azur Lane's Cheshire took a lot of energy to blend the character's original style with Chinese New Year elements. This character leaves an impression of being lively, a bit tsundere, and highly charming. The design of the modified Qipao happens to neutralize the youthful and mature vibes.

Every New Year always feels particularly fast; the holiday ends in the blink of an eye. This time, through this cosplay photoshoot, the joy of the New Year has been preserved. Playing with plum blossom branches and finding light angles with the photography team during the process was exhausting, but seeing the bright red visual impact in the finished photos, along with the soft texture of the fur collar, made all the hard work feel worth it.

That's all for the New Year special edition share. I hope you in front of the screen can feel the unique charm of the character Cheshire and appreciate the rich Chinese red elements in this set of photos. A new chapter has begun; bringing along this booming cosplay photoshoot, welcome the life ahead properly with some fine Anime-style photography records.
