This is a set of iJoy convention photos featuring Gongsun Li's Smoke of Regret outfit from Honor of Kings. Many friends asked about convention photos of this outfit before, so I compiled these shots to share. When crafting this costume, great emphasis was placed on combining intricate patterns with light gauze, so the focus of this shoot was to present a delicate yet agile feel.
Let's talk about the details of the outfit first. The upper body features a white halter-neck design, accented by a prominent golden cloud-scroll pattern on the chest, which serves as the core element defining the outfit's overall temperament. A mint-green ring pendant sits at the neckline, pairing seamlessly with the cool blue-and-white palette. The sleeves are my personal favorite—translucent blue gauze water sleeves printed with white wave patterns. When a light breeze blew across the venue, the layering of the gauze became beautifully pronounced. The arms are fitted with white bracers bearing silver totems, creating a transition from shoulders to arms that feels crisp yet soft and graceful.
The wig styling, makeup, and props were also meticulously planned. The deep teal hair is styled into an updo, adorned with golden ring-shaped metal ornaments and two vivid red beads that easily catch the eye. The makeup is paired with color contact lenses in a matching shade to sharpen the gaze. The oil-paper umbrella with an ink-wash ocean wave pattern acts as the soulful prop of this look. Under the venue lights, the texture of the pattern becomes strikingly three-dimensional, though holding the umbrella required precise control over angles and strength so as not to block incoming light.
The full-body standing shot clearly highlights the lower body design. In addition to a dark blue wide waistband and blue-green braided cord knots, the waist is decorated with a delicate golden gourd ornament. The lower hem is constructed from spliced blue and white fabric panels of matching tones, flowing elegantly with every step. The block high heels visually elongate the legs, while the red tassels and red-and-white wing decorations on the heels enrich the detail around the ankles.
Capturing cosplay convention photos on site is actually quite physically demanding. The venue lighting is complex; standing against large glass curtain walls and metal window frames, with dark grey concrete floors that—despite their great texture—easily reflect ambient colors onto the costume. During the shoot, position adjustments were constantly needed to avoid overhead glare and find the best diffuse light angle. When shooting sitting and lying poses, extra care was taken regarding the placement of the skirt and hands to prevent creasing or blocking props.
Although navigating through crowds with a complete equipment set is tiring, hearing the shutter click and seeing the images rendered across focal lengths and histograms makes this authentic documentation deeply fulfilling. This post highlights three main poses—sitting, lying, and standing—to capture the details of the outfit and the cool atmosphere of the blue-and-white color palette as completely as possible.
