The chosen theme for this shoot clearly pointed toward Kasugano Sora's Angel style form. I made plenty of preparations early on, especially regarding shooting angles. In a studio shoot against a white background, standing poses can easily look plain or unflattering if not adjusted carefully. After discussing with photographer @子沐, we decided on a crouching pose with a low center of gravity. This not only concentrated the visual focus onto the massive White feather wings, but also expressed the character's characteristic aloofness through the body language of wrapping arms around herself.
The wig was one of the core elements. This light golden long straight hair needed to be combed smooth, with zero frizz. Since the character herself has black ribbons as visual anchors, I specifically reinforced the stability of the hair accessories to prevent them from slipping when moving or turning my head in the studio. Before styling, I carefully trimmed the bangs with scissors so they barely touched the edges of the brows and eyes without blocking too much vision, which helped tremendously with conveying expressions later.
The outfit is a white spaghetti-strap slip dress. The fabric is lightweight with great drape, but in a windless studio, it can easily look flat against the body rather than three-dimensional. To improve this, I used small clips along the hem to add layers, giving the edges a slight outward curl. Paired with the thin black ribbon bow on the chest and smaller bows on the shoulder straps, it achieved a fundamental color balance in black-and-white contrast. In truth, the simpler the garment, the more it tests tailoring and grooming details.
The wing props were what I valued most. These large White feather wings were massive in volume and felt heavier in hand than expected. To prevent their weight from collapsing the dress straps when worn, I tightened the fastening buckles securely and added foam padding to relieve shoulder pressure. During the shoot, drifting feathers were dynamic props between the photographer and me. We tried timing the feather toss multiple times, as the natural fall and strobe timing rarely aligned instantly; out of dozens of burst shots, we only picked the few where feathers floated in the most optimal positions.
Regarding pose and expression, I experimented with different facial orientations. Looking directly into the lens could easily disrupt the character's secluded, solitary aura, so I ultimately chose a gentle downward tilt. My gaze rested on the foreground below without a specific focal point, aiming to convey an introverted, contemplative state. This subtle melancholy perfectly complemented the heightened purity of the white dress and White feather wings in this Kasugano Sora cosplay.
For lighting control, we employed extensive High-key photography setups. Typically, such lighting can flatten facial bone structure or cause highlight clipping. We added softboxes on the left and overhead, surrounding the subject with white reflectors for fill light. This made the entire silhouette appear as if emerging softly from the background with luminous translucency. However, such a bright environment made me squint; to maintain a calm gaze, I closed my eyes for a few minutes before each take to let my pupils adapt—a handy little trick for shooting in a Pure white atmosphere.
The final images avoided complex color grading, retaining the clean texture of straight-out-of-camera shots. The white background, white fabric, and feathers blended harmoniously, leaving only the black bows and golden hair as points of contrast. Shooting a high-contrast monochrome palette is surprisingly difficult, as a slight misstep causes the white dress to dissolve into the background. Judging from the final results, it captured the exact transparency and serenity I aimed for.
Looking back on the whole process, this was far more than just a costume shoot—it was about using body language to get closer to the character. Slipping into this outfit, wearing the wig, and donning the White feather wings, my movements naturally became cautious and reserved. This subtly helped me channel the character's authentic essence.
