Presenting myself in front of the lens as Ruan Mei requires completely shedding the casualness of daily life and adjusting to a calm, slightly detached aura. The production of this blue and gold Chinese-style long dress is full of ingenuity, combining layered tulle with crisp satin to outline a beauty that is both classical and slightly sharp. The pearl necklace around the neck and the dangling ornaments add delicate embellishments to the overall styling. Combined with sleek short black hair and blue contact lenses, it successfully builds that cool yet gentle spirit of hers.

During the shooting process, the props at hand were important fulcrums for emotional expression. Whether it was the graceful grip on the black folding fan or holding the matching Chinese-style Pipa, they allowed me to quickly immerse myself in the character's atmosphere. The design of this musical instrument is extremely exquisite, with elegant flower patterns painted on the soundboard, and the bright blue decoration on the Pipa head echoes the outfit perfectly. The weight and texture of the Pipa itself brought a very realistic sense of tranquility. I also really like the design of the black and gold gloves; they not only maintain a high degree of consistency in the overall outfit but also reveal an exquisite sense of power in every gesture, not appearing overly weak, but rather bringing a touch of sharpness.

This shoot prepared two starkly different scenes. One is a Chinese-style study full of ink fragrance, surrounded by calligraphy scrolls, with white plum branches stretching casually in the corner, and fallen flower petals dotted on the carpet underfoot, as if it were an artistic conception walked out of a painting. The light from retro lanterns reflecting on the clothes makes the peacock blue fabric look deeper and more layered. The other is a pure cool-toned studio shoot, with a blue and white gradient background and calm light, further highlighting the silhouette and luster of the clothing itself. I think this contrast also echoes the contradictions in the character Ruan Mei—retaining a warm foundation in the worldly hustle and bustle, yet being like a lofty guest detached from the world.

In the process of shaping this image, I paid great attention to the conveyance of the eyes. Ruan Mei's stillness is not a vacant stare, but a composure of seeing through things without saying too much. I tried to control my facial expressions, maintaining a soft arc of slightly pursed lips, with fewer sharp edges. Through the lens, the quiet elegance flows between my fingertips and my eyes. The texture of the clothing, the holding of props, and the control of limb strength—every detail gradually came to life in this immersive performance. Because the character herself carries a sense of composed detachment, I also tried to keep my back straight and my knees naturally crossed when choosing sitting and standing postures, showing a classical, introverted, and dignified temperament.

Although this shooting process was quite long, from adjusting the arc of the wig's bangs to repeatedly confirming the tightness of the waist ornaments, and even checking the gloves against the mirror to ensure they fit perfectly, this focus itself was a kind of enjoyment. As can be seen from the final photos, the drape of the entire outfit and every tiny detail were well preserved under the lens. Completely substituting myself into a completely different story and identity and trying my best to restore that unique charm is indeed a very fulfilling thing. Capturing these moments with the lens, I hope to show everyone my understanding and dedicated performance of this unique Chinese-style image in Honkai: Star Rail.
