My name is Tingyun, the Envoy of the Luofu Sky-Faring Commission commercial guild, and today I have come to meet all of you esteemed benefactors. These sets of guest photos have finally been successfully published. From location scouting to the final images, we went through quite a bit of coordination, but looking at the final results, the sense of accomplishment in our hearts is fully rewarding. A huge thank you to Teacher Yanluo for the performance, perfectly capturing Tingyun's effortless, slightly crafty, and gentle temperament.
The costume and styling for this shoot are extremely intricate. People might think animal ears and uniforms look light and cute, but actually wearing them is quite a test of physical endurance. The braided hair of the wig and those iconic red highlights are very eye-catching; the stylist purposely retained some scattered stray strands when managing the hair layers, giving the character a casual touch beyond her liveliness. Those fluffy animal ears are not only a bonus for the styling but also the key element embodying the character's foxian traits, giving an instant sense of immersion once put on.
We set up four or five different scenes this time, striving to showcase Tingyun's state across various contexts. The first set is a semi-traditional Chinese tea room scene; sitting there sipping a cup of tea, that serene and elegant feeling instantly comes alive. Props like the folding fan and the flute are tailor-made for her—whether half-shielding her face with an unfurled fan or playing the flute horizontally, they brilliantly echo her lore-based identity as a smooth-talking yet unfathomable commercial guild emissary.
For me, probably the most favorite set was the shooting in front of the bar counter. On that table covered with banknotes and poker chips, at the moment the character leans forward to whisper, that composed sense of depth left a profound impression on me. Tingyun is not merely a desk worker who handles interpersonal relations; beneath her exterior lies the shrewdness of the business world. Under the colorful neon lights, her red, black, and white costume is sliced by light and shadow into rich layers, and paired with a slightly tipsy atmosphere, it solidly materializes a female image navigating various factions and effortlessly maneuvering amidst laughter.
During the performance, I often pondered: What kind of person is Tingyun? Her exterior is always smiling, flawless in treating others, yet her eyes—always bright and clear—seem capable of seeing through many things. This setting of being warm outside yet cold inside, circular outside yet square inside, heavily tests acting skills. Throughout the shoot, the director kept telling me to relax my shoulders and keep my gaze from being too tense, using a relaxed, even effortless state to face the lens. But liveliness shouldn't be missing either, so many subtle head tilts and little quirky gestures were repeated several times to nail the timing.
This kind of attire carrying ancient style elements and fantasy vibes, combined with the integration of some modern urban backgrounds, actually places extremely high demands on studio lighting. Often, the blending point between soft and hard light is extremely delicate—too soft lacks texture, while too hard makes the person look sharp. Fortunately, the photographer's capture of light this time was exceptionally keen, especially the application of purple-red light and shadow at the end, which carries a strong cinematic feel, making people want to take a second look immediately.
Of course, aside from technical presentation, what matters most in cosplaying is the passion for the character. Every time I put on this outfit, it generates a resonance with her. It feels as if at this moment, I am not just an ordinary player, but genuinely standing on the docks of the Luofu, holding the commercial guild's files in hand, ready to maneuver for profits and human sentiments. This cross-dimensional emotional experience is the most fascinating part of cosplay.
Due to the costume's rather unique cut—featuring a backless design, high slits, and relatively heavy overall accessories—the physical toll was quite high. However, seeing how the resulting photos successfully restore the character's charm makes it all entirely worthwhile. As an envoy who is eloquent at business negotiation tables and well-versed in quoting classics beside tea tables, Tingyun's charm is truly multifaceted, and today I did my utmost to freeze one side of her in time with the camera.
