[Herta cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Orchestra Conductor Shoot in a Vintage Manor

This photoshoot brought several characters from Honkai: Star Rail together in a vintage manor, where I was responsible for portraying Herta (Herta cosplay) as well as overall coordination. The venue selection was very meticulous: dark wood-paneled walls and classic carved sofas naturally exuded nobility, which, paired with high-contrast hard lighting, beautifully showcased the texture of golden embroidery trims and lace on the costumes.

The first photo was chosen as the cover because its composition was the most balanced. Six people were arranged harmoniously around the sofa; the two female characters showcased slender leg lines, particularly the seated posture on the right featuring a purple skirt paired with black stockings and high heels (Stockings cosplay), which balanced the triangular composition of the purple-and-white dress on the left. The visual center was very well-proportioned without cropping any character at the edges. This Herta costume involved meticulous attention to detail—silver hair strands, the conductor's scepter, and gloves all required special care regarding joint angles during the shoot.

Lighting control on the day of the shoot was a technical art: for example, in the staircase shot, backlighting was used to outline hair contours, making the subjects pop against the dark background. Meanwhile, the positioning of the group near the windows utilized natural light reflecting off stockings and skin to elevate the image texture. Collaborating with the cosplayers portraying Castorice (Castorice cosplay), Acheron (Acheron Cosplay), Jing Yuan, Sunday, and Dr. Ratio was seamless; everyone brought matching musical instrument props like violins, harps, and accordions, which directly established the orchestra theme in the frame.

When shooting group photos, the biggest concern is spatial depth, so we specifically arranged camera angles looking up from the first floor or utilizing staircase height differences, using telephoto compression to accentuate the venue's depth. During shooting, I paid special attention to keeping the stockings smooth and pointing my toes in high heels to ensure visual tension in the character's attire. The post-processing concept leaned toward a cinematic film aesthetic, subduing shadows slightly to preserve the venue's vintage tones while enhancing the luster of the purple garments. This set involved multiple rehearsals for facial expressions and standing postures, striving to capture the characters' elegant composure. I wonder if anyone noticed how the carpet pattern echoed the costume colors when placing props—such details are vital for elevating overall texture.

The framing for the big group photos was also designed in advance, including the final curtain-call pose where everyone collectively lifted their skirts and bowed their heads, requiring precise facial control while holding the stance. The direction of light casting through the corridor pillars also dictated our camera positions, resulting in a rich, multi-layered group composition.
