Being able to complete this Herta cosplay shoot was truly an exciting experience for me. From finalizing this outfit to walking into the photo studio, I went through a lot of preparation, and now seeing the final photos, everything feels completely worth it.
Let's talk about the outfit first. The biggest highlight is definitely the giant purple wide-brimmed hat atop my head. The hat's pattern was crafted with immense care; to recreate those layered pleats and the reflective sheen of velvet satin, the studio tailor put in quite a bit of effort. Although wearing the hat created a noticeable top-heavy feel, the overall "mage" aura instantly emerged. The silver-gray short hair with bangs, paired with deep eye makeup and red lips, created a mysterious and aloof vibe under the studio lights, perfectly fitting the character's tone.
The off-the-shoulder upper bodice design really tested my figure, but precisely this design perfectly showcases the character's elegance. The black leather collar at the neckline and dangling geometric ornaments added a touch of sleek, punk temperament, forming a wonderful collision with the heavy feel of a magic grimoire. The sleeves are detachable; pale purple loose arm sleeves draped alongside my arms, contrasting lightweight fabric with heavy skirt hems to bring dynamic, flowy elegance between movements. The dark cinched waist at the chest with delicate symmetrical patterns tightly focused the visual center of the upper body.
The lower outfit pulled the mysterious vibe to its absolute limit. The deep purple outer skirt hem features fabric decorated with complex swirling vine embroidery, layered with a white inner lining for ample depth. What captures the eye most is undoubtedly this pair of Black stockings featuring delicate vertical pinstripes. The sheer quality of the stockings was handled impeccably—neither overly opaque nor too thin—flawlessly smoothing the leg lines. Paired with black-and-white, silver-accented cross-laced high boots, the lower body coordination was not only sharp but carried a touch of valiant charm. The boot lacing details faithfully recreated the lore settings; though somewhat tedious to put on and take off, it was entirely worth the effort for the final visual impact.
The shooting scenario was set inside an authentic studio decorated in a vintage study style. Behind me stood tall solid-wood bookshelves packed with books in various colored covers; you could even smell the faint wooden aroma and ink scent unique to old books. On the desk lay a stack of yellowed papers, several thick foreign tomes, and a retro white ceramic teacup, with lighting fixtures on the right featuring exquisite metallic bases and layered lampshades. These props and backdrops added immense value, infusing narrative depth into the entire photo set—as if she had truly just finished researching ancient texts and was quietly contemplating some complex enigma.
Speaking of the shooting process, the photographer understood my vision thoroughly and executed candid captures with precise timing. Particularly in several half-body and seated shots, they beautifully captured the character's confident yet relaxed temperament. During shooting, beyond managing the strength in my eyes, I had to adjust finger postures and ensure every fringe strand of the wig was in place, maintaining a demeanor both detached and in complete command of the situation.
I also want to give special thanks to my photography partner, Tayue, who was exceptionally patient and professional. Among my many Chongqing photoshoot booking experiences, this was truly one of the most delightful. Although getting the final photos ready involved quite a bit of effort and hair/makeup took significant time on shooting day, seeing that texture on screen made all fatigue vanish instantly. Many people comment that this outfit is "absurd," but perhaps it's precisely this exaggerated design that gives it such high recognition. During the shoot, we tried different angles, such as the final pose sitting on the edge of the wooden desk, which displayed the full outfit coordination while interacting beautifully with the background scene.
Beyond this Herta cosplay look, cosplaying this character brought me immense joy; shooting such a magical and mysterious photo set in a city as vibrant and grounded as Chongqing was truly a special experience. I hope everyone can notice my dedication to the costumes and props, and feel the unique charm belonging to the character. What the final photos convey is not merely the character's intrinsic coolness, but our long-standing passion and perseverance within 2D anime culture.
