[Matikanetannhauser Cosplay] Dynamic World Line Sprint Moments Captured Live at the Convention

Here I come running across the world line! And there I go! Captured by @LittleYaoRejectsNothing, this set of convention photos precisely freezes the exact emotions and dynamic energy I wanted to convey at the venue.

Standing on the wide plaza outside the convention venue surrounded by bustling attendees, prop makers rolling suitcases, and cosplayers in various styles, I wanted to capture that instant burst of a sprint. I posed with one leg slightly bent, torso leaning far forward, and arms extending backward. While this might look a bit exaggerated normally, under the lens, it perfectly showcases the brisk, eager-to-run spirit unique to an Umamusume: Pretty Derby character. I especially favor the first photo—it not only captures the peak moment of action, but the shoulder curves of the outfit, the angle of the bow tie, the layered corset, and even the boot laces naturally follow the dynamic movement.

Shooting dynamic action at a crowded convention isn't easy. The environment is messy, lighting changes constantly, and avoiding passersby is a challenge. So before shooting, we communicated closely with the photographer to plan the motion range, quickly finding a relatively clean patch of grey concrete amidst the crowd. The photographer caught timing so well that almost no shots were wasted—this synergy greatly boosted efficiency. We ran back and forth about five or six times in that area until capturing a moment that satisfied both of us.

Turning to the outfit preparation, a lot of thought went into it as well. The white off-the-shoulder shirt paired with a blue bow tie sets a crisp color contrast as the tone for the outfit. The outer layer is a short brown vest paired with a striking red girdle and leather belt, neatly raising the waistline for a sharper silhouette. The skirt is a pleated dark blue miniskirt trimmed with white ruffles; when walking or turning sharply like in the photos, the skirt spreads out naturally with rich layers. The blue-and-white color-blocked hat on top, accented by fluffy animal ears on both sides, serves as the finishing touch of the styling. The brim shades part of the forehead from sunlight while concentrating visual focus right between the eyes.

Anime conventions are always full of fun encounters. Walking through the crowd in this costume, I was occasionally recognized by passersby, and kids stared curiously at my fluffy ear hat and boots. Because this outfit is relatively lightweight without oversized props, walking around all day didn't cause heavy exhaustion. Compared to fellow cosplayers carrying giant swords or massive staves in their Coser daily life, my mobility was much easier.

I've always believed that cosplay photos shouldn't just be standing still in fixed poses. If a character naturally possesses athletic or vibrant traits, the photos should convey that dynamic power. In this shoot, I truly wanted to express Matikanetannhauser's pure, energetic spirit of charging forward with all her heart. There were many lively expressions and movements in the raw photos; the ones we selected preserved the fast-paced energy of Umamusume: Pretty Derby while avoiding distorted postures that compromise character beauty.

Finally, special thanks to the photographer's post-processing. The lighting at the convention was quite harsh that day, alternating between early/late shadows and midday glares, which could easily cause dark facial shadows or blown-out highlights. However, these convention photos maintained balanced exposure with natural skin tones, avoiding heavy skin smoothing or over-sharpening while preserving fabric texture and smooth light transitions. I feel that these authentic photos with atmospheric breath, free of heavy edits, better convey the genuine joy behind Coser daily life. Isn't the purpose of an anime convention to unleash one's passion and remember these joyful moments through vivid pictures? I look forward to meeting everyone at the next event with a brand new look!
