This set of Daji cosplay photos was shot earlier at the Zhongshan AS Comic Convention; it had been sitting on my hard drive unorganized, and I recently dug it out to retouch and share as throwback Convention photos.
The design details of this costume are truly striking, featuring bold color-blocking of bright yellow and black, edged with golden piping and geometric trims. To accentuate the character's traits in this Kemonomimi cosplay, extensive thought went into the props. The orange-yellow gradient wig required advance trimming and styling, especially the layering around the bangs and sideburns to contour the face flatteringly. The enormous plush ears atop my head and the massive tail behind me were the main visual focal points; to keep the fur fluffy and pristine, I brushed them meticulously before leaving and took great care not to crush them during shooting. Because the tail itself was so massive, arranging it to look natural yet substantial on camera was an exhausting physical workout requiring constant adjustments.
The convention venue on that day was a classic industrial space—steel frame structures and towering ceilings paired with distant natural light made it ideal for shooting. However, because of the raw concrete floor, to accommodate the character's kneeling pose while protecting the stockings and keeping my knees from getting hurt, I brought along my own round white plush rug. For footwear and legwear, I paired sheer black stockings with black platform high heels for this Stockings cosplay, which visually elongated my leg lines while elevating the overall silhouette to fit the character's commanding aura. Accessories like the golden arm guards in my hands, the red cord knots at the waist, and the metallic knee armor required continuous attention while walking and posing.
In terms of poses, the photographer and I discussed several stances. Kneeling on the plush rug, stroking the side of my ear with my right hand while extending my left arm outward gracefully highlighted the costume details on the sleeves while keeping the body elongated. Another set adjusted angles to utilize torso twisting and arm placement to enrich the composition's depth. Because the costume was form-fitting, engaging my core kept my posture upright, while my gaze had to stay languid yet confident to avoid looking stiff.
Shooting this throwback series was actually quite tiring—hauling such a massive tail through the venue while constantly watching if my wig was disheveled. However, seeing the final results made it completely worthwhile. Every time I take on a different character, there is so much to learn—from wardrobe preparation to hair and makeup nuances, right through to lighting coordination on set. The lighting in this set precisely emphasized the contrast between yellow and black, while the cool-toned venue backdrop gave the subject distinct three-dimensional pop.
