Cosplaying Youlong Jinhua from Honor of Kings at the convention this time, the overall fabric palette and textures looked utterly stunning under natural ambient light. The patchwork of purple and blue in this costume, accented with gold piping, caught the eye brilliantly beneath the venue's lighting. To complement the character's gaze, I deliberately wore DOYA colored contacts; their color payoff was superb, giving my eyes a deep yet luminous translucency when paired with today's makeup.

Preparing this Youlong Jinhua cosplay look involved an immense amount of care. From cutting and styling the wig to anchoring every hair accessory, every detail was tuned toward faithful recreation. Although the golden branch ornament atop my head was gorgeous, its weight meant frequently readjusting its position throughout the convention floor and securing it with plenty of bobby pins to keep it from slipping. The purple fin-like ornaments and pearl embellishments on both sides framed the head with exquisite detail. The collar trim and bodice ornaments were also reinforced to ensure they held their shape all day long across the venue halls.

What surprised me most during this photo session was the ambient lighting. I love how well fixed-axis highlight setups capture frames—with abundant overhead and rim lights throughout the hall, leveraging those light sources to create a fixed-axis highlight in the eyes not only brought them to life, but also sculpted crisp facial dimensionality. The photographer seized numerous vibrant, candid moments where the purple wig and pearls caught the light with rich depth. Even without a reflector, the hall's overhead lights turned into a natural asset; finding the right angle allowed catchlights to shine through flawlessly, resulting in an exceptionally high hit rate for great shots.

The prop was another major highlight of this look. The pink dragon-shaped prop I carried was crafted from a semi-translucent, subtly granulated material that resembled an aquatic creature or an enchanted creation. Its surface grain rendered with extreme delicacy before the lens, harmonizing with the scaled gradient patterns on the dress. A matching bangle on my left wrist completed the ensemble. The fabric textures were richly layered—glossy purple fabrics, sheer white tulle, and shimmering scale-like textiles along the hem combined to produce a gentle, undulating ripple when walking.

For the makeup, focus was placed on seamless transitions between eye shadow and blush. To harmonize with the purple-and-blue garments, eye shadow was kept within analogous tones, while the lower lash line was accentuated to evoke an aura that was both innocent and aloof. Soft pink lips prevented the look from appearing overly sharp. Donning DOYA colored contacts significantly enhanced the chromatic saturation of the eyes, and paired with the fixed-axis highlight, the eyes became the absolute visual focal point.

While traversing the venue in such an elaborate costume—along with intricate headpieces and props that demanded constant vigilance against bumps—was physically tiring, seeing the finished frames made every ounce of effort worthwhile. Every photograph faithfully recorded the nuances of this Youlong Jinhua cosplay, hitting my envisioned standards in fabric texture and lighting balance alike. It was a thoroughly fulfilling convention experience where I also connected with fellow fans to trade crafting and photography tips, learning a great deal. I look forward to future opportunities to bring such intricately crafted characters to life.
