The core of this shoot revolves around 'Maid Supremacism,' aiming to recreate FKEY's unique elegance and mystery through this styling and Retro scene. The overall tone was set in a dark academia study: a deep brown tufted leather sofa, a full wall of distressed hardcover books in the background, and black-and-white checkered floor tiles. Blended together, these elements provided a powerful narrative foundation for this Portrait photography set.
For hair and makeup, I used a silver-gray long straight wig to achieve a sleek yet airy texture, and topped it with pink-and-white plush animal ears that instantly anchored the aesthetic. The red colored contact lenses were the centerpiece of the makeup, neutralizing the cool overall palette while making the gaze sharper and more piercing. The costume, of course, centered on the classic black-and-white Maid outfit: an oversized white ruffled lapel collar paired with black long sleeves creates a minimalist monochrome contrast. The slender red ribbon bow at the collar serves as the crowning touch, bringing a vibrant pop of color to the look. The skirt features a voluminous white apron over a black dress with delicate lace trimming along the edges. For the lower body, I wore white tights to complete a White thigh-highs outfit aesthetic, paired with black patent leather block-heel Mary Janes whose glossy shine looked exceptionally rich against the wooden floor and checkered tiles.
The scene setup for this shoot was exceptionally rich. Beyond major elements like bookshelves and the leather sofa, corners were decorated with a globe, an antique typewriter, a vintage gramophone, and candleholders alongside vases with dried roses. These props were not just decorations; they enriched the weight of the space, creating great contrasting tension with the light, crisp Maid outfit I wore. The vintage engraved pistol prop in hand was also meticulously chosen, effortlessly supporting colder, sharper poses.
The photographer's lighting style is very distinctive. This time, strong directional lighting was placed at the side and slightly frontal angle of the subject. These intense highlights even generated a subtle lens flare, imbuing the frames with a dreamy, surreal atmosphere, as if magical light and shadow were leaping out of a heavy tome. While shooting this set, I deliberately alternated between distinct mental states. In shots holding the gun, I kept my back straight, chin slightly raised, responding to the lens with a discerning, scrutinizing gaze to bring out that formidable edge underlying a 'lady's demeanor.' Conversely, in shots balancing a book on my head or resting hands lightly on my knees, my posture instantly relaxed, tucking my seated pose slightly inward to reveal her quiet, gentle, and subtly mischievous side.
I really love how the highlights illuminated the texture of the white lace and stockings, bringing out distinct, clear layering in the garments. The pairing of the white stockings with black patent shoes for this White thigh-highs outfit look is wonderfully suited for these gothic-inspired seated poses, beautifully elongating the leg lines visually. Testing various leg-crossing and knee-bending poses on the sofa, the silhouette of the skirt and the delicate lace trim were immensely satisfying. Although the shoot was filled with numerous props and the setting was slightly tight, it was precisely this living-in, retro study Retro scene that made this FKEY cosplay feel so vivid and authentic. The overall result closely matched our initial vision of a 'dark academia' atmosphere—conveying this visual collision between historical solemnity and anime-inspired lightness was the ultimate goal of this shoot.
