This set of Honor of Kings Xishi photos is finally organized, and today I'm sharing some details behind the shoot.
I was the on-camera model, with photography and partial post-production handled by Master Qingfeng Photographer V, while I took care of initial hair and makeup preparation as well as parts of the final color grading. As Convention photos for ICOS, the entire process was exhausting but deeply rewarding.
In terms of wardrobe, Xishi's iconic blue-and-white color palette appears airy and light, yet putting it on involves multiple complex layers. The halter-neck, off-the-shoulder top required prior adjustments to the shoulder straps and waist cincher to ensure a tailored fit, with the deep blue corset serving as the key anchor for my curves. The wig was trimmed with neat straight bangs, paired with a carved silver crown and flowing blue ribbons on both sides, striving to faithfully recreate the character's lively grace. The most striking prop was that luminous blue flower; crafted from pearlescent material, it reflected subtle luster beneath cool-toned studio lights, while the accompanying bells and tassels provided a natural sense of extended motion with every slight movement.
To capture satisfying results, we devoted substantial thought to posing. In-game, Xishi gives off an impression of effortless lightness balanced by calm control. In front of the camera, I experimented with standing while letting long floating sashes drape naturally, sitting cross-legged while cradling the flower, and reclining on a white plush carpet. The photographer excels at dynamic candid captures; the seated pose in Photo 2 is one of my favorites, using a touch of perspective foreshortening to highlight the leg contours and leg wraps clearly. Because the skirt features high side slits paired with clear block-heeled sandals, maintaining natural physical extension required keeping my core continually engaged so the elongated leg lines looked graceful. Even with strong studio key lights, the final contrast came through with rich texture.
For makeup, to echo the character's cool serenity, I wore blue contact lenses, deepening the eye contours primarily with clean earth tones without heavy blending to keep the look pristine. The lips were touched with a soft pinkish-red to prevent the makeup from looking overdone beneath strong lights. Silver bells on my wrists and ankles along with jade-like bangles were aligned frame-by-frame against the official splash art before putting them on.
During post-processing, the photographer and I agreed to preserve authentic skin texture without excessive smoothing, primarily crushing the background shadows to accentuate the crisp contrast of the blue-and-white attire. The cool-toned ambiance not only mirrors Xishi's abilities but also grants the overall composition a luminous, crystalline clarity.
Attending conventions and studio shoots demands serious stamina, but bringing a beloved character to life while refining every movement and interplay of light is truly enjoyable in itself. We explored diverse compositional angles this time, and I hope everyone can feel Xishi's serene yet vibrant spirit.
