Wearing this blue-and-white Rem Maid outfit this time, I shot a set of photos in a café, which counts as a relatively satisfying outdoor attempt recently. The details of the costume are highly accurate, especially the layered lace on the skirt hem and the golden bell at the neckline, which are very helpful in building the character's playful vibe. The wig was deliberately chosen to be a cool-toned blue, paired with a headband featuring pearl flower decorations, and the iconic yellow "X" hairclip on the side instantly allows people to recognize the character of Rem. Under the natural light of the café, this light blue tone looks exceptionally soft.
During the shoot, thanks to the snapshot skills of my friend @忧郁的鸡, we used alternating close-up and medium-shot compositions to present the character. For example, the close-up shot in the first image holding a spoon has plenty of tension, while the pose in the third image with both hands slightly spread forward looks livelier and more interactive. To make the facial light and shadow fuller, we intentionally looked for a spot by the window as the primary light source, avoiding the degradation of facial contours caused by direct overhead light, ensuring the clarity of the big eyes and makeup details.
For prop selection, we used cake, a spoon, a fork, and cupcakes, which increased the interaction between the frame and the character rather than just staring blankly at the camera. While portraying the character, I deliberately adjusted the softness of my facial muscles and gaze, hoping to capture that feeling of Rem being slightly tsundere yet carrying a hint of dependency. Restoring the character in a lifelike everyday setting like this adds a touch of worldly realism compared to studio shoots, and beautifully showcases the character's charm. Continuously exploring better makeup, styling, and lighting solutions is always a highly enjoyable part of doing cosplay.
