This issue's cosplay photoshoot features Shu's Spring Banquet look from Arknights. From scene conception to the final photos, the overall process progressed more smoothly than imagined. The original intention behind deciding to shoot this look, besides my love for this character, was being deeply attracted by the bright and comfortable color palette of this skin. The yellow, pink, and white color scheme is exceptionally photogenic under the spring atmosphere. The outer plush shawl not only adds visual thickness but also gives the entire character a languid and gentle texture. The horns on her head and the braided pigtails with blue and yellow highlights are the characteristic points of the entire look. During styling, a lot of heart went into the flow of the hair strands and the arrangement of the tassels, striving to present a three-dimensional sense of layers in front of the camera.
On the day of the shoot, we chose an indoor ancient style photography studio with a wooden structure. The space originally had a large number of wooden lattices, making it perfect for creating an atmosphere of interwoven light and shadow. The photographer placed many hydrangeas and cherry blossom branches around the set, which, paired with bamboo mats and tea sets, perfected the composition of the entire scene. Personally, I really like that single photo in Photo 4. The sunlight happened to hit the hair strands and horns through the lattices from diagonally behind. Due to the characteristics of backlighting, the edges presented a transparent highlight, softening the facial contours. Holding a pink and white flower branch in my hand during the shoot, combined with lowered eyes, it indeed naturally brought out that peaceful mood of "a goddess lying in this space, quietly watching the changing world."
In terms of costume details, the texture of this Spring Banquet casual wear was well recreated. The inner yellow top is very friendly to the waist and abdomen cuts; it doesn't look bulky and forms a visual echo with the rose-pink color of the coat. The combination of white lace and plush decorations prevents the overall styling from being too monotonous. The yellow and blue color-blocked gloves on the hands are a finishing touch; when holding tea cups and flower branches, they highlight the character's features without generating too much color clash. Midway through the shoot, we focused on leaning and sitting postures, utilizing the bamboo mats, wooden chairs, and flowers to form a visual centripetal force, keeping the style of the entire photo set consistent.
Because it was a collaborative shoot, the coordination with the photographer this time was very seamless. During the shoot, the photographer would adjust the composition in real-time on the camera display screen and show me the immediate results, so feedback on expressions and action states could be received promptly. I deliberately adjusted several different angles, such as a close-up of sitting and sipping tea, as well as a slightly tilted head perspective, so that putting them together would create a good visual sequence on social media. During post-processing, we retained the warm yellow tone of the original photos, enhanced the texture of the wood grain and flower petals, avoided over-smoothing the skin, and preserved the three-dimensionality and skin texture details brought by light and shadow to match the character's own gentle, earth-born temperament.
As an Arknights cosplay photoshoot sharing, this record of the Spring Banquet counts as a very precise capture of the character's aura. Without too many complicated movements, it conveys the character's inherent sense of stability and power through simple sitting, lying, and minute gestures. Whether in the control of costumes and props or the utilization of the light and shadow environment, this shoot was highly enjoyable. I hope everyone can feel a soft life force just like spring from this set of photos, and also thanks to the photographer friend for traveling back and forth between Hangzhou and Shanghai. The shoot took place exactly during the blossoming season, which counts as retaining a beautiful spring scenery through the lens.
