[Shu Cosplay] Arknights: The Homecoming Watcher in the Autumn Rice Waves

Standing in the waist-deep golden rice field, stepping on the moist ridges underfoot, this moment is exactly how I imagined "Shu" to be. From initially deciding on the theme "Soak in Spring Verdure" (浸春芜), I felt that this shoot must be completed under real natural light, as studio shoots can hardly reproduce that connection between her and the land, all things, and solar terms. Therefore, we chose this open agricultural land as our outdoor photography location, where the rice ears are already full and bowing low, filling the eyes with a golden hue, perfectly matching the character's setting baseline.

Deciding to play this character, the biggest challenge actually lay in grasping the overall temperament. She is not an emotionally expressive character who needs violent movements to manifest, but rather a calm, quiet guardian image that harbors immense strength within tranquility. Thus, on-site, I did not deliberately strike exaggerated combat poses, but chose to look back amidst the fields, following the direction of the wind. The photographer caught the snapshot of me turning slightly sideways, holding that long sword with one hand, while naturally extending the other hand toward the distant ridges. I really love the details of the sword—the pure white blade paired with a red sword tassel, forming a clever echo in colors with my white coat and red-painted pant legs.

Let's talk about the overall makeup and styling this time. The wig features a split-color design of light gold and bright blue, reaching the waist, clearly displaying different gradients of color layers under the outdoor sunlight, which, combined with the accessories on top of the head carrying traits of small horns and animal ears, provides highly prominent recognition. The elf ears were also finely embellished. The coat is a loose white smock with sleeves slightly pulled in for convenience when holding the sword and making movements. The inner wear is a silver-white bandeau, and the white long pants of the lower body feature large-area red painting at the knees and hems, with edges deliberately crafted with slight damage and weathered details, carrying a very realistic sense of traveling in the wild. Dark tattoo stickers are applied to the arms and forearms; though half-hidden by the coat, they beautifully accentuate the character's features when stretching out the arms.

The weather on the day of the shoot was exceptionally supportive, with blue skies and white clouds, combined with a large area of yellow-green gradient rice, making the color saturation of the entire frame very high. Although walking on the field paths wasn't very smooth and stepping in the mud would get my shoes all muddy, this "grounded" feeling instead made the shooting state very relaxed. To find angles, the photographer buried half of his body inside the rice clumps. When the wind blew, the rice waves rustled, blowing the hair strands of the wig into a highly flowing look, completely eliminating the need for an artificial wind machine to create an atmosphere; nature is the best lighting technician and prop master.

In the process of reproducing the character, I was also thinking about how to express that unique vitality belonging to her. In this vast golden rice field, looking at her makes it feel as if one can sense the accumulation of time and the rotation of seasons. I integrated this atmosphere with a natural aura into my gaze, not deliberately pleasing the lens, but maintaining a peaceful posture of looking into the distance. Through this outdoor photography shoot, I more deeply realized that good photos depend not only on exquisite clothing, makeup, and props, but even more on the fusion between the person and the surrounding environment. I hope this set of photos can not only convey the appearance characteristics of the character but also let everyone feel that resilience and gentleness in her bones.
