Today, I shot this Cyrene cosplay photo set. From the morning makeup and styling to the late-night studio shoot, I maintained a high level of focus throughout the entire process. To ensure the character's accuracy, Shiyue and I communicated repeatedly, from the blending of the eye makeup to the wearing of the elf ear props, getting as close to the character's temperament as possible. The pink long hair needed to be styled very smoothly to present a natural flowing feel in the air.
The clothing part can be said to be the highlight of this shoot. The long dress with a pink, white, and purple gradient adopts a multi-layered ruffle design, which not only has a strong sense of visual layering but also flows along when walking and posing. The long train in the back and the hollow patterns on the waist sides also required careful adjustment of their positions. Because the skirt is relatively long, in order to better display the white stockings on the legs, I continuously adjusted my sitting posture and the placement angle of the skirt during breaks, which, paired with silver sequined high heels, could well elongate the leg lines. The white armor and floral decorations on the arms also tested posing; if the angle was wrong, it was easy to block the face or make the movements look stiff. Although the halo and veil on top of the head looked nice, fixing them required a bit of ingenuity, and any slightly big movement easily caused displacement. During the real-scene shoot, due to the large volume of the skirt and train, every posture adjustment required re-sorting the folds of the skirt to ensure that every detail could be presented in the best state through the lens.
The prop bow obtained this time has an exquisitely delicate design with a rainbow-colored gradient coating. Although the appearance is gorgeous, it still has a certain weight when actually held in hand. To shoot the bow-drawing posture well, I repeatedly practiced the force-generating points of my arms, trying to make the movement both light and able to show focus. During the solid-color background studio shoot, there were a few times when I needed to kneel on one knee, which looked visually very impactful. When we moved to the real-scene studio, the white light gauze, flower vines, and scattered books, combined with the feathers and petals in the air, instantly brought out the atmosphere. I needed to find different eye states in this environment, such as firmness when looking at the camera, or contemplation when lowering my head. To match the camera's shutter speed, some dynamic captures required me to keep my movement still without shaking for a few seconds, which was also a test for core strength.
The cooperation between Shiyue and me was very tacit. The photographer knows very well how to capture light, and can precisely capture the flow of the skirt even in a smoke-filled environment. We also discussed and adjusted the post-processing part together, mainly to highlight the dreamy colors of the clothing and environment while retaining the real skin texture. Although the whole shoot was very tiring—makeup and styling alone took several hours—the moment I saw the final photos, all the fatigue vanished. Thanks to Zhengzhou Shiyue cosplay experience hall for providing the venue; this Cyrene shoot achieved my expected effect. The whole process also gave me a deeper understanding of the character, and every shutter pressed is a witness to putting emotional investment into this character.
