[Identity V Journalist cosplay] Nightingale and Waves at Xichong Beach

This set of photos is an Identity V Journalist cosplay photoshoot taken at Xichong Beach. Taking advantage of our seaside team-building trip, I brought along this blue-and-white plaid dress and camera props. For the daytime look, I chose a sheer tulle coat paired with a blue camisole top and a vintage plaid skirt; the overall color palette harmonized beautifully with the seaside sunlight. To keep the visual from feeling monotonous, instead of wearing sunglasses over my eyes, I perched them on my head and braided my hair into long golden plaits for a more relaxed, everyday aesthetic. During the shoot, the photographer suggested poses such as sitting barefoot on the sand and looking back over my shoulder, or placing one hand on my hip with my head tilted slightly upward, using a wide-angle lens to elongate the leg lines. With even facial lighting and strong daytime sunlight, we used reflectors to fill in light and capture a translucent skin texture, and having the skirt flutter in the ocean breeze fit the seaside atmosphere perfectly. Seaside cosplay shooting really tests your control over expressions and body posture: you have to maintain your balance as waves roll in, and with the strong sea breeze, you constantly have to tidy hair blown loose, though after several shots you settle into the rhythm. In such an expansive outdoor setting, alternating between wide-angle and prime lenses requires careful thought—wide-angle lenses capture an expansive, grand feeling, while prime lenses highlight the delicate details of portraiture.

The nighttime portion took place after twilight during the blue hour, when the sky and sea settle into a cool, blue-gray tone. To photograph the scenes holding the black lantern, we used the lantern itself as the primary key light for my face. The contrast between this warm yellow glow and the cool ambient environment brought out the character's serene, tranquil mood. While capturing these shots, I cradled the base of the lantern with one hand and gently touched my cheek or adjusted the lantern's angle with the other, ensuring the light illuminated my eyes and facial contours naturally. The composition leaned toward half-body close-ups, compressing the depth of field to emphasize the focus in my eyes. Night shooting demands far more precise camera settings than daytime work; to maintain image quality, a slower shutter speed and an appropriate ISO were required, which meant I had to stay completely still while the photographer timed each shutter press. In post-processing, the lace edges and the lantern's glow were enhanced, giving the subject richer layers. Moreover, choosing this white sheer outfit for the night shoot was mainly because white fabric reflects light well, blending smoothly with the surrounding deep blue without looking jarring. Night shooting requires extra attention to metering; since the lantern's light source is concentrated, the ambient surroundings had to be dialed down slightly to give room to the lantern's halo, producing an effect where only the area around the lantern radiates warm light. Beyond adjusting my posture, the photographer had to keep a close eye on fabric wrinkles and ensure my face didn't appear too shiny. With mosquitoes swarming at night, I kept applying repellent to my legs while maintaining identical poses for long stretches.

Xichong Beach is quite vast, and although there were visitors, we found a relatively open spot away from the crowds. This photoshoot during our team-building trip was a fun experiment—creating art while enjoying a vacation. Integrating costumes and props into the natural beach environment made the character feel much more authentic and vivid. Furthermore, the weather and setting were ideal for a character that weaves a touch of freshness with melancholy. Through countless shutter clicks, posture adjustments, and constant light meter checks, we finally captured the angles we were satisfied with. Throughout our collaboration, the photographer was exceptionally patient, guiding me toward comfortable poses while balancing camera parameter changes. We shot two complete looks that day—the daytime plaid skirt and the nighttime lace tulle—interpreting different timelines of the character. Having curious tourists watching nearby required overcoming a bit of social anxiety, but everyone was very friendly and even complimented the shoot afterwards. Wearing sheer clothing by the beach felt slightly unfamiliar at first, but to present great body lines on camera, I continually adjusted my stance until my leg silhouette looked elongated. For outdoor shoots, bringing ample water and tissues is a must for touch-ups; the sea breeze easily ruffles hair and skin tends to shine, so keeping the makeup fresh was crucial. Since it took place during team-building time, balancing leisure time with everyone while striving for top-notch shots made the schedule quite tight. Overall, it was a fantastic shooting experience: the styling, props, and location meshed seamlessly to deliver photos dripping with atmosphere.
