[Doremy Sweet Cosplay] Touhou Kanjuden ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom: Dream Conception in a Midnight Amusement Park

From the moment I chose this Doremy Sweet costume, many people said it was a rare choice. However, this black-and-white color-blocking design paired with a red hat brim and numerous white pom-pom decorations indeed carries an otherworldly sense of fantasy. For this outdoor shoot, we specifically chose an amusement park closed for the night. In an environment surrounded by iron railings with park rides covered in tarps, combined with the direct hit of harsh flash photography, it maximizes the character's aura of wandering along the edge of reality.

Handling the garment's material and faithfully restoring the details proved much harder than imagined, especially controlling the skirt's fluffiness. To avoid looking bulky when wearing it, I added stiff tulle support inside the lining, which, combined with the outer velvet fabric, allowed it to present a slightly reflective texture under the flash. The combination of white stockings and chunky-soled black leather shoes is one of the key highlights of this outfit, accentuating the leg lines under harsh light and creating a striking visual contrast. The pom-poms and lace trim on the clothes also constantly required maintenance, needing repeated adjustments throughout the shoot.

During the shoot, we used relatively harsh lighting—mainly an outdoor strobe filling light from the front side. This not only illuminated the subject clearly but also created a massive contrast of light and dark against the pitch-black rides and stone walls behind, evoking a sense of lonely exploration and dreaminess in the dead of night. The white pillow and pink plush prop in my hands served as auxiliary elements for this look. Posing with them brought a lot of fun to the shooting process, and their textures look very harmonious with the environmental color palette in the photos.

The text in the post really resonated with me. Touhou Project has always been a fanwork community thriving on passion and sharing, and this openness is its greatest charm. Although Doremy Sweet isn't a household name in Touhou Kanjuden ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, I personally really love her lazy yet slightly mysterious design. Recently, discussions about the rumors regarding the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil remake have been very active in the community. If this wave of enthusiasm can encourage more newcomers to learn about the Touhou series, that would be wonderful. Doing cosplay is not just about visual accuracy, but also a way to express love for the work, and I hope this creative atmosphere continues forever.

This shoot at the midnight amusement park was actually quite exhausting—setting up night lighting, repelling insects, and repeatedly adjusting poses—but seeing the final shots made it feel completely worth it.
