[Dolia Cosplay] Duoduo from Honor of Kings: Not Just Sea Foam

"Choose Duoduo! I'm not just foam on the sea, but the genuine Dolia." This time, I specifically scheduled a seaside location shoot to recreate the character's oceanic essence from Honor of Kings. The weather favored us when we arrived at the shore; the shade of the ocean matched my costume's color scheme perfectly, providing ideal lighting conditions for an outdoor shoot.

The part of this outfit that required the most thought was the three-dimensional shaping of the skirt. To achieve that layered look, we paired lightweight blue satin tulle with stiffer organza lining. This allowed the skirt to resemble petals or a jellyfish when still, while naturally fluttering in the wind when running or jumping. The purple accents on the skirt look like floating petals, balancing the solid large areas of blue nicely. For accessories, I specifically chose silver arm cuffs to create a material contrast against the water-blue palette.

Styling the wig required quite a bit of patience as well. The iconic cowlick at the top needed strong support and setting, and the curl curvature at the ends was repeatedly adjusted. As for makeup, to keep it looking clean and translucent under bright seaside sunlight, the foundation was kept light. Instead, pearl-textured eyeshadow and a clear lip gloss were selected so that under sunlight, the entire face looked luminous and radiant without appearing washed out by strong light.

Most shots this time were candid, emphasizing a natural state. To convey a playful vibe, the photographer let me improvise freely on the beach. The jumping pose shown in the photos took several attempts to master the timing; hair and skirt had to float up simultaneously as the shutter clicked at the peak moment. Because of repeated jumping onto soft sand, maintaining balance upon landing was tricky, but this made the dynamic leap in the frame feel genuinely candid rather than stiff. The sea breeze served as a natural prop—when it rustled hair strands and ribbons, the overall atmosphere immediately elevated. Going barefoot was a choice to closely match the character's setting of living by the sea; running through seawater alongside the natural motion of the wind truly highlights why a outdoor location shoot outshines a studio setup.

Just like the original Dolia, I wanted to convey her carefree, laughter-filled persona in the images. Throughout the session, I actively engaged my emotions, experimenting with gestures and stances to recreate that pure joy. Choosing the beach over a studio was also because natural light transitions feel much smoother; the deep gradient blue of the ocean creates a backdrop with far more breathing room than artificial sets.

In post-processing, we made subtle color adjustments, boosting the blue saturation while slightly vignetting the edges to draw visual focus toward the character. When shooting themes dominated by blue, colors can easily muddy together, so during prep, we intentionally added small red hair accessories and purple skirt accents. Brightening these colors in post gave the composition a lively, multi-layered feel.

Looking back at this Dolia cosplay set in my Anime Life Archive, it completely captured the ocean-girl vibe I envisioned. Although it was my first time trying a seaside photoshoot for this character, the final results exceeded initial expectations. Despite the physical strain and hard work on the shoot day, seeing the raw and retouched photos makes all the travel and prep feel deeply rewarding. I hope this work allows everyone to see my dedicated interpretation of this character.
