[Firefly Cosplay] A Ray of Light in Honkai: Star Rail, Walking with the Wind and Sunlight

Today's photoshoot subject is Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail. We chose an urban rooftop with red brick exterior walls and an expansive open view, which curiously echoed the caption line \"traverse mountains and rivers with you.\" Although surrounded by the concrete jungle, the sunlight was exceptionally bright; warm rays spilled across my face, filling the entire photo set with atmosphere.

The makeup was also specifically adjusted. To match the character's silver-gray to teal gradient hair, I avoided vibrant, highly saturated colors for eyeshadow, opting instead for a clearer earth-tone base overlaid with subtle shimmer to make my eyes look softer and filled with narrative depth. The lip makeup focused on a natural rose-beanpaste shade, adding a healthy complexion without disrupting the overall cool demeanor.

Styling the wig was actually the most tedious part—making it look fluffy and natural without appearing overly bulky or top-heavy. The teal gradient at the tips in particular required a smooth transition to avoid harsh color blocks. The black leather headband on top, along with the white feather-like accent, effectively secured the directional flow of the style.

The overall fashion details were kept as close to the character design's texture as possible. The ribbed cuffs of the gray-green jacket were smoothed down, with the gold buttons aligned in brightness and positioning. The inner white shirt had a crisp collar, paired with a black tie and a striking teal gemstone-like bow tie acting as the visual centerpiece of the upper body. The purple-and-gray fine plaid skirt on the bottom added rich layering, while the black leather belt with a metallic buckle cinched the waist nicely, accentuating body proportions.

Since the shoot took place under direct outdoor sunlight, the light was unforgiving regarding color accuracy, but that was precisely the key test for costume and makeup texture. Fortunately, the textures of all the fabrics looked expressive in the sunshine without feeling cheap.

Working with the photographer went smoothly during the shoot. We didn't push for exaggerated poses, opting instead to capture quiet, everyday states—like making a simple V-sign or placing fingers gently against the chest—to express the character's softer side. Under backlight or side light, the edges of hair strands glowed translucently, adding a soft aura over the frame.

Honestly, every time I do an outdoor photoshoot or roleplay at an anime convention for a character with nuanced emotions, I need to quiet my mind and feel their state of heart. Though it was just an ordinary afternoon, in the click of the shutter, it felt as if I could truly bask in the sun and feel the breeze with that character, moving forward alongside a story. This immersion and dedication is perhaps the greatest joy that cosplay brings in the 2D culture.
