[Belle cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: Phaethon's Daily Life and Combat Stance

This studio shoot tackled Belle from Zenless Zone Zero; her lore as one of Phaethon gives her outfit a strong urban techwear vibe. For styling, the wig was chosen as a layered, textured dark blue short cut paired with an orange "N" hairpin. The makeup specifically incorporated green contacts to match the official character art, with elongated eye lines and a natural lip finish. Outfit-wise, a black high-neck compression top served as the base, layered beneath a black short-sleeved graphic T-shirt covered in Japanese text and bold orange color blocks, topped off with a sleeveless hooded vest spliced in white, orange, and blue. The lower body featured grey-blue shorts draped with an orange plaid overshirt at the waist, paired with an over-the-knee Black stockings on one leg and a red calf sock on the other—this asymmetrical legwear design creates immense visual impact. Chunky off-white dad sneakers, orange fingerless gloves, a cyan gear wristband on the left wrist, and a silver necklace rounded out an exceptionally detailed look.

To capture Belle's different facets, several setups and props were prepared. Standing before the pure white backdrop with a red-and-white baseball bat hoisted over one shoulder, my gaze and body language aimed to embody the cool confidence of a Proxy battling inside the Hollows; sliding one hand into my pocket with a slight forward lean accentuated the vest's silhouette and waistline. In the lounge set, looking down at a smartphone while seated on a row of black chairs, stretching both arms across a green beanbag chair, or perching on an office chair playing with a cyan gadget captured her relaxed, playful daily demeanor. Props like the red-and-white bat, a phone equipped with game grips, and a cyan fidget cube added vibrant slices of everyday gaming life. I especially loved the one-knee crouch with my chin resting on my palm in photo two; getting this pose right required repeatedly refining the angles of my knees and arms to naturally guide the eye to my face while elongating the line of the over-the-knee stocking and thigh. Lying back while holding a gaming handheld simulated her casual gaming habits, though core stability had to be kept to sustain a photogenic poise before the camera.

Regarding photography specs, the shoot was captured with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II paired with an RF 24-70mm F2.8 lens, using standard studio settings of ISO 100, f/8 aperture, and 1/125s shutter speed. The f/8 aperture ensured edge-to-edge sharpness across the model and wardrobe details, especially rendering the Japanese text prints and stocking textures with immaculate clarity. Even lighting cleanly separated the bright garment accents from the black base layers. When capturing a multi-layered, colorful character against a pure white background, scenes can easily turn flat, so additional background lights were added to prevent dull shadows. The secret lay in maintaining compositional tension—the photographer utilized diverse high and low angles, such as a slight low-angle shot for the chair crouch in photo six, and an eye-level horizontal composition for the bench recline in photo four. For multi-layered characters like this, keeping poses naturally paced with prop interactions ensures every photo carries a distinct storytelling narrative rather than feeling like a stiff pose.
