Preparing this Azur Lane Bai Feng cosplay outfit took quite some time. From the initial decision to portray this character, every single step—choosing the wig, matching the contact lenses, and communicating with the tailor regarding garment layering and fabrics—needed to be planned well in advance. Bai Feng conveys a sense of relaxed ease without losing her sharp edge, so instead of using overly rigid silhouettes, this look balanced the overall presence through the drape of the fabric and the volume of the hair strands.

The wig was custom-made in a pale platinum blonde with more volume than typical daily styles to properly support the iconic white feather ornaments on the head. This broad expanse of white feathers paired with black-and-white striped ribbons is visually striking and instantly recognizable, though it heavily tested wig-styling and securing techniques. Any larger head movement during the shoot could easily mess it up, requiring frequent touch-ups from the makeup artist. Fortunately, we had a hairdryer in the studio, and with clips and setting spray prepared beforehand, the overall silhouette remained quite stable.

The costume was also a major highlight of this shoot. The off-the-shoulder design puts neck and shoulder lines in the spotlight. The garment utilized white jacquard satin, which reflected a very soft and natural sheen under the studio ceiling lights, forming a sharp contrast with the wide black waist sash. The black fabric across the chest was covered with delicate white embroidery, looking clean and elegant from afar and richly detailed up close. The oversized bow at the waist and the carved silver metal ornament below were the most prominent accents on the entire outfit; the visual weight brought by the metallic piece grounded any potential flightiness, allowing the character to appear more poised and steady when standing.

For makeup, I specially paired yellow contact lenses to match the character's design. The eye makeup used warmer eyeshadow tones for transitions so the golden eyes looked softer and more natural rather than a harsh neon yellow. A slight blend of red at the outer corners of the eyes echoed the lip color, enhancing the vitality and expressiveness of the face. Because a white wig can easily make the complexion look pale, a peach-toned blush was chosen, hoping the final photos in front of the lens would reveal a healthy glow and radiant energy.

On the day of the shoot, we chose a studio set featuring calligraphy scrolls, wooden window lattices, and semi-sheer drapes, perfectly capturing that refined, incense-filled aesthetic. The light filtered through the gauze curtains became exceptionally soft, casting no harsh shadows on the face. Holding that pale celadon ceramic cup, I imagined standing on the flight deck of the Sakura Empire aircraft carrier, with a gentle breeze sweeping across the riggings as I raised a cup to toast this fleeting moment of serenity. Although the mechanical carrier planes weren't fully materialized as physical props in the photos, I still hoped to capture the composed grace of this Sakura Empire aircraft carrier through my focused gaze and poised gestures.

For post-processing color grading, I discussed with the retoucher to lean toward a cooler palette, suitably subduing the environmental highlights to make the white fabrics appear purer and more translucent while preserving the sharp edge textures of the metallic accessories. Most of the shoot went smoothly, though extra care was needed to avoid bumping the voluminous headpieces and waist ornaments while moving around the studio. Shedding this intricate ensemble after wrapping up made me feel weightless, but seeing those flowing, frozen moments in the final Anime-style photography made all the upfront effort completely worth it. Reviewing the photos, the Sakura Empire theme truly offers immense creative space; that dynamic tension between dignity and playfulness made this collaboration between cosplayer and photographer a delightful endeavor. This set avoids exaggerated posing, completing many frames through quiet interactions, and I hope these visuals offer a complete sense of immersion into this Japanese style cosplay character.
