This photoshoot set featuring Rita's Spina Astera battlesuit from Honkai Impact 3rd has finally come together. The creative concept centered on the ornate elegance and combat-ready posture of the Astera armor. Because the character naturally radiates poised elegance, we dedicated immense thought to makeup, styling, and action choreography.
First, addressing the wig and makeup: Rita's signature short blonde hair demanded exceptional technical skill from the stylist. The front bangs required delicate layering to achieve an airy, featherlight feel without appearing heavy, keeping wispy strands along the edges to flatter facial contours. For makeup, purple-red tones were blended around the eyes to deepen the outer corners, paired with enhanced eyeliner and individually clustered false eyelashes for dramatic camera clarity. The base was finished with a matte foundation, accented by strategic highlighters to sculpt dimensional facial planes.
The wardrobe is packed with intricate detailing. The design features asymmetrical tailoring with striking black, white, purple, and gold contrast, while the gilded metal hardware at the waist and rigid collar-neck accents carry noticeable physical weight. In particular, the dramatic single-sided high slit along the skirt required careful attention during movement and poses to prevent wardrobe slips. The lower half paired with white long Stockings, harmonizing cleanly with the overall color scheme. To preserve the garment's crisp 3D structure, rigid interfacing was sewn into the inner lining, making the suit quite warm and stuffy under lights.
Regarding props, the colossal polearm was the most labor-intensive component. To faithfully recreate its cyan-blue gemstones and gold filigree borders, the prop artisan went through multiple rounds of sanding, painting, and polishing. The weapon possessed considerable weight; holding it required engaged core and arm strength to maintain balance. My arms grew exhausted over time, yet holding the striking combat stance was essential for dynamic visual tension.
The scenic styling on shoot day was equally meticulous. A deep blue draped curtain served as the primary backdrop, adorned above with illuminated translucent stars and golden garlands. White Roman pillars and filigree arches were arranged in staggered layers, accented by purple and white florals. Ambient lighting relied primarily on LED string lights and candle-shaped fill strobes. Blue-purple ambient light falling onto the white skirt easily risked blowing out specular highlights; fortunately, photographer @Housekeeper balanced light and shadow impeccably, employing rim and side lighting to sculpt crisp silhouettes of both subject and weapon while preserving accurate color grading.
In terms of posing direction, side-profile stances and forward-reaching gestures were utilized to showcase the high-slit skirt and elongated leg contours. To avoid stiffness, I shifted my center of gravity between takes. Maneuvering the polearm within the studio's confined space was tricky, requiring calculated wrist and arm angles to avoid obstructing my face while showcasing the weapon's magnificent presence. The entire session flowed smoothly through seamless teamwork, and I hope this finished collection successfully conveys the exquisite texture of the Spina Astera battlesuit.
